Hey all. I've been using stereo tool and I see it gets better and better over time :)
And the site is working this time :)

But I'm stuck at very specific case over here. The scenario:

I receive an FM radiostation in Europe that has pre-emphasis of 50 uS, and I receive it via USA FM receiver that has de-emphasis of 75 uS. The tuner is plugged in the "line in" jack and I want to stream this particular station over the Internet.

The problem is that I don't know the exact settings that I need to set in stereo tool to get back the hights, that were lost in the de-emphasis.

At the moment the audio passes via stereo tool and I've turned on only the equlizer, but I don't know what values to input for the optimal sound. So in short I need 25 uS of pre-emphasis to compensate the loss. How can I do this via Stereo tool?

p.s. I know that I can do this via Breakaway Broadcast, but it's not working under Linux and you can't make me install Windows + pay ~$500 for the BB... ;)

No, that is not good way to do that, not from stereo Tool and not form Breakaway.

What you need is to find another tuner (with 50us) OR to open that tuner and try to switch it to 50us (if possible).

What's the model?

It's a Sony XDR F1HD, but opening is NOT an option (it's in remote location).
The only option is to compensate for the loss somehow.
I've tested Breakaway and it restores the sound really good, differences are really really hard to notice even on decent studio monitors.

But I can't figure out the exact values for stereo tool.

Interesting. What you need is first a 75 us emphasis to restore the audio that comes out of the transmitter - stereo tool can do that.

Next, you need 50 us deemphasis. Of course that's also built into stereo tool, but not available as a separate option. ,(should be very easy ti add though).

Alternatively you could use mpx tool - but I think you need a registered version for this.

25 us pre-emphasis will give a different result!

OK, please, add this option and allow theese kind of scenarios (1st a pre-emphasis of 75uS then de-emphasis of 50uS), so I can use the 75uS receiver for 50uS signal.

You must restore it form 75us to 50us and it MUST be at input as first step!
I know that you think you can do it from Breakaway .. but that's not good too.. because you have some processing there before Pre-Emphasis 15us or 25us.

If you have such 'filter' on very input it will be acceptable soulution, but again you have one conversion more. So, as i said, best way is good tuner with 50us.

So far I've came up with acceptable solution. hvz , Please, let me know if you ever plan to add de-emphasis in Stereo tool.

Bojcha, if you want, I can send you a sample. It's not too bad :D The station itsself has bad processing and I've compared the output from the FM tuner to the studio link on good studio monitors, and the result is acceptable.

btw. i got really good results with breakaway, and I wonder why not do it this way...

0uS (original audio from the studio) + 50 uS (European FM Transmitter Pre-emphasis) - 75 uS (Sony XDR F1HD De-emphasis) + 25 uS (Breakaway Broadcast Pre-Emphasis) = 0 uS (original audio from the studio) :)

Breakaway Broadcast is running in Bypass mode, so no processing is being done anyway.

If I'm wrong - correct me :)
