On mbl4 we could adjust the pre-emphasis. This is what i want to do (FM only). We can adjust pre-emphasis on 56-58 to get more highs without hurting...
Phoenix told me solution, but i am not sure is the one i need. is it?
Apologies outright Chris, I failed to understand the intent for asking adjustable pre-emphasis in FM Processing section. The workaround I mentioned doesnot apply for FM Tansmission. So in such an event, your request or need can be addressed by Hans himself.

Hans, is the is 'Punch' functional in Loudness Section? Doesnot have any effect in the VST version?

If I'm not too mistaken this time around, you re-uploaded beta 42 after a while changing the defaults for 'High vs Lows Protection' range to 400-800 Hz. But it sounds there's more to it than just changing the defaults. Clarity is undeniable 'very high' than all previous releases and sounds more airy, but annoyingly missing the sweet spot for vocals and bass. Probably fiddling a little with the 'punch' might help.

Punch Filter working but it's changed.
Works only to bass section. Sometimes It's difficult to note is it work or not, even if i look at scope.

I already asked about punch.

Where is it in chan and on what freq is new and on what freq was old punch?

I may be wrong, but I remember (it seems to me as if) Hans wrote that the lossy compression output optimization pre-emphasis (and de-emphasis) settings are ignored if you enable FM processing (the pre-emphasis in this section) !?

Hans ?
Or does it work the way phoenix has described it ?
True, for FM processing this won't work (and you should really use FM processing, otherwise the audio isn't clipped correctly - there are some differences between FM clipping and non-FM clipping!)

So all the improvements you are talking about in latest beta versions is based on the usage of loudness ?
Yes, I didn't have room to place all the new sliders. And I will remove most of them - they are there now just to play with them and find good settings, when that's done I'll remove any that doesn't seem to be useful.

Sorry

The thing is that the processing is currently changing almost daily. I could give you a diagram of the 'big' processing steps (actually I'll just type it below), but not really a detailed view.

High level view:

1. Lowpass filter if not phase linear
2. Noise gate
3. Stereo Boost
4. AGC
5. Multiband
6. Singleband
7. Phase rotation
8. Final Limiter
9. Loudness
10. Hard Limit
11. Addition of MPX signal, composite limiter.

Just use the equalizer instead. Or try increasing 'allow louder highs'.

Punch basically allows loud tones to 'burst through' the clipping value set in Loudness.

So for example a very loud bass that would be reduced a lot by Loudness won't be reduced as much.

In the pre-voice filter versions, Punch worked on ALL the frequencies in the sound.
In the current version, it only works on the lowest frequencies (upto 'Highs vs. lows protection', by default 400-800 Hz). And the total of this is clipped again before it is combined with the higher frequencies.

Now after the last changes I made I think I can re-enable Punch for all frequencies (ie. after combining the clipped lows with the highs) again. I'll try that - a warning though: This may very well cause distortion and voice vibrations.

Edit: Hm, it doesn't seem to be that bad...
Edit #2: Adjusted Punch such that when voice vibrations are likely to occur the effect on the bass is reduced. Seems to work well (even at maximum punch and maximum 'max punch' levels). Building now.

Oh..
Very simple....
Hard Limit to those freqs. If i set "Then rize to (static)" not to 100% but 90% .. strict limit to that value.
Current does this but it's not strict.. there is still peeks to 100% if i set to 90%!

edit:
how do i know?
i play track thru winamp and ST DSP with only bandpass ON at adjusted like 0-350Hz, then ioutput to standalone with "Then rize to (static)" = 90% and "from 0 up to 350Hz. At Standalone ST output it's not always 90% there is peeks to even 100%
