very great work hans! ;) the new compressor have a good sound. but i think its better to have two completely different compressors. so you can choose the sound you really like.this is because i think some people want to have the classic sound. but i think you have to change the width of the vst plugin, because you can really not read all sliders. the adjusting is also really hard. i tried your preset, but i am getting sometimes gaps in the real time audio. the cpu load is also higher then in the older versions.

I know, the CPU load is something that I have to look into soon (but step 1 is to make sure it does what it should, optimizing comes after that).

Changing the width of the VST plugin would be a good idea anyway, the annoying thing with VST plug-ins is that the width is static and that means that I have to make it small enough to fit on all displays... All other plugin types can be changed by the user.

For me, the preset created in the most recent beta release post sounds really busy.

I did not spend a lot of time with it, maybe 20 minutes. I found that even with cutting back GR in the MB section about 2.5dB and reducing drive to the Advanced Clipper that the sound still had what I can only describe as busy-ness. It sounds like it's always working -- and working way too hard.

I did not mess with the speeds because I do not know what the new controls really do. I wanted to hear it "out of the box". I was testing with fairly dense rock music as input. I don't know if Hans tried that while setting up.

No, and I have tamed it down a lot later. Point is that many people were asking for what they described as a "dirty" sound, which wasn't really possible with the old compressor. But if you set the speeds slower it should be possible to make a sound similar to the old compressor.

I tried to use the master release time slider on the first MB page to slow it down. That control appears to have no effect and I could slide it to 10 with no audible difference.

that its a good point, but i dont think that anybody wants to compress to agressive. the old compressor have at lower attack times a much smoother sound. if i change the speeds of the new compressor, i am getting other artifacts, like pumping, which you already eleminate on the old compressor. i think you should use both, the old and the new compressor. but you have different use cases for them!

edit: do you think that a soft preset like bojcha unveil will be possible with the new compressor?

@near: the new compressor should be able to do everything the old did; actually it might be a good idea for me to test if I can make it behave the same. Will look into that!

I have done a very quick attempt to replicate the Unveil compressor settings in Analog mode. I've only tested it with 3 tracks so far but it seems pretty close. In fact, even less pumping in one of the two attempts.

For some reason I can't upload the files (probably a browser issue), I've put them on Zippyshare.

UNVEIL_COMPRESSOR1 uses a method that Bojcha proposed. Let's call this "automatic door" mode :)
UNVEIL_COMPRESSOR2 uses a method that I like more.

Note: Set to DIGITAL to get the original compressor from Unveil, but without limiting. Because the new compressor doesn't have that yet either.

Note: Only works with the latest beta (018)!
