Assume this is internal gain and can't clip in extreme cases (eg input level hits -5dbfs and ST-SA is set for 20db input gain?)
So correct setup would be to dial in input gain equal to how far the nominal input level is below 0dbfs? eg if nominal input level sits around -20dbfs, then set ST input gain to 20db.
As I recall ST-SA has an input bit depth of 16 bits at some point - where is that bit depth limitation in respect to the input gain stage? For example, if a nominal input device is nominally -20dbfs @ 24 bit, would this low level negatively effect the quality at the stage it hits only 16 bit resolution within ST-SA, or does the new input gain feature resolve that issue?
