I have made 3 changes to the processing:
- The deep bass filtering based on the clear highs/deep bass slider is REMOVED. Basically that corresponds to setting the slider all the way to the right.
- I have restored a part of the old processing that should make the highs sound clearer (has nothing to do with distortion, but with ringing (bad mp3-like sounds). I noticed them when I set Loudness to 4.0... Still, it should also improve the sound at lower loudness values, although I couldn't really tell the difference. BUT: This MAY re-introduce the "edges" that some people complained about some time ago, if that's the case I'll turn this option off again.
- The clear highs/deep bass slider is still present, but now it operates directly on the distortion filter. Setting it higher allows a bit more distortion while leaving the bass sound SLIGHTLY louder. Lower settings give cleaner highs.
Turning the original deep bass/clean highs filter off has increased the lowest frequencies by - on average - another 0.8 dB...
Due to the large changes, feedback on the default deep bass/clean highs slider is - again (sorry...

) - welcome. I think it should be close to the center. Feedback on the overall sound quality is of course also always very welcome.
Remaining items on my todo list:
- Add "warm and smooth" preset
DONE
- Go through the presets and see if I should make any changes
- Check if I can improve the performance of Normal and Low quality mode if both Loudness and Pre Limiter are turned on by ALWAYS bypassing the final limiter in that case.
- Fill in a default value for the "clean highs/deep bass" slider.
- Check how the RMS-based pre limiter handles deep bass sounds: It seems to respond too strong on very low frequencies.
I'll upload an update in about an hour, feedback on the difference in sound is welcome. The release will have to come a bit later - the changes to the processing had too much impact.
