I like to try StereoTool on my mac, especially my music via iTunes. Someone have an step-by-step manual how I can setup this? What I already known is that I needed a VST adapter for it, but after than I don't know how I can put StereoTool in it, and which VST adapter I need for it. I hope someone can help me out. Thanks.

Hi freaky33,

that is not as easy as it could be. Running the plugin on a mac requires spesific music apps to play nice with it. And to grab sound from iTunes … thats not as easy as it could be either. I got a working setup with standalone Stereotool, but it needs some geek tweeking to make it run.
First off, standalone would be the way to go, but that one only "reads" sound from "Jack" (http://www.jackosx.com/download.html) that again reads sound from the audio input and delivers to the audio output on a mac.
Second, to grab the iTunes sound, you'll would need "AudioHiJack" (https://www.rogueamoeba.com/audiohijack/). Once "Jack" is intalled, you'll find a "Jack-insert" inside "AudioHijack" that would be able to deliver and recieve sound to Stereotool…heh takes some time to set up, but once it runs it works.

So in short that would be; iTunes -> AudioHijack -> Jack-insert -> Jack -> Stereotool - > Jack -> Jack-insert -> AudioHijack -> Audio out -> Speakers -> YourEarsForPleasure

I havent tried the newer version of AudioHijack since I got it working on an older release.

An easyer path would be to use an old mac or win-box to take care of the sound and not mixing it all up on one mac. I've done that too…

On the downloadpage for Stereotool, in the colum for mac vst, the info states; "For VST hosts such as Reaper and Ableton". And that the standalone needs "Jack".

Thats my best tips.

Regards,

MrDonT

Ok, but how is Jack working, where can I find and select StereoTool in it, or only in Audiohijack which I must load in Jack? It's not easy to understand on this way.

Hi again,

if I remember correctly, after installing "Jack" and starting it, then start Stereotool standalone, "Jack" should "see" Stereotool and give you an easy way to connect. Once their both running you could try to input audio on your mac from the line-in and see/hear if you get any results. If it works then "AudioHiJack" should be able to "see" the Jack application as an insert point. I dont remember what or how i did it, its been a few years since I set it up so hehe pardon my lack of memory on this subject.

But Stereotool will probably take alot of cpu to run (depending on what mac your trying to run it on), so my best suggestion would still be to get your hands on a secondhand older mac or win-box and run the standalone from there. Then it would be easier later on to listen to iTunes without alot of config and tweeking every time you want to make the greate sound to your speakers. Just to plug in the audiocable and make it do its thang. You could also install win on a mac…did you know that? Works like a charm :)

Regards,

MrDonT

Yes, I was a PC user before but I'm a mac user now. So I try it on a PC and it works like a charm. But I wonder if i could use it on a mac too. Thanks for the info. Maybe someone else have better options to use StereoTool on a Mac. Tips are welcome.

I'm planning to hire someone (because I just don't have time for it) to make a native Mac version with proper sound card and GUI support. Not sure when it will be available.

I got it working on a streaming station that used a mac with jack. It was confusing and difficult...but got it working quite well. Now if only I could remember what I did to restore how it was setup when the computer reboots.
