This preset is totally new from everything i've created. I listened to the Optimod 8000a vintage FM processor and believe to have figured out one of it's secrets. It uses a gated singleband limiter on exit. The gated limiter is actually a neat thing that gives the uncompressed / compressed sound i was looking for. This was impossible to achieve with older stereo tool versions, the sound would come out either too compressed to get those rich harmonics out of all songs (and this over-compression sounds bad, it gets the ears tired and in the end it just sounds like... well 'mashed potatoes' with every frequency competing to get out of the speaker) either too uncompressed and flat. There was something on the FM dial that stereo tool was missing... I tried lots of presets published on the forum and found inspiration in many of them, but no presed actually could match the FM stations. So, after some study and a lot of practise, by 90% chance and 10% intuition the idea of the gated singleband limited was tried. Now, this is what i was looking for. The multiband now only serves to level the bands get them as close as desired as possible. This requires slow attack times and slow releases. The "hot" sound is achieved using a fast singleband limiter with gate, so that below certain levels the sound is not limited anymore and it becomes clear and nice (no more "mashed potato" effect). This maintains dynamics below certain levels and makes the radio deliver a "punchy" sound, yet, when the gate opens the sound is limited.

This is only a "beta" version of the preset, so any suggestions are welcome.
The preset was created using an on-air modulator, with a home-made stereo coder and home-made exciter radiating into a dummy load. Remember, use only quality recordings to test this one out. This preset does not perform alchemy, if garbage goes in, garbage goes out...

Works with stereotool 7.20 and up. This sound cannot be achieved in earlier stereotool versions.
I haven't heard this preset directly on headphones, only though fm-radio. If you listen it on headphones directly and it sounds too loud / distorted, turn down the output on the singleband (Processing > Singleband > Levels > Output level).

To me sounds very bad! Unnecessary big input into clipper. Advanced clipper maximum upto -3dB.. Then it's way better.

Bojcha, thanks for the suggestion.

I spent some time tweaking the preset, i also took you suggestion.
However, as there are differences between airchains, the preset will sound most probably in a different way in your headphones than in mine.

This time, along with the preset, i also uploaded a recording directly from a Sony MP3 player (recorded from live radio). The background ticking comes from the MP3 player and the 17 KHz sine you can hear is also caused by the radio's circuitry (probably because it's too close the the transmitter). Anyway, hope you like it.

Here is the recording (16 MB Compressed WAV File):

The STS is in the attachment.
