Stereo Tool Gurus,

Stereo Tool shows Outputs for Normal, FM and Low Quality Low Latency.

This will be my first time trying Stereo Tool On Air using the FM Audio Out with 50us preemphasis. I want Left and Right audio out with the pre-emphasis. I am going to feed the L & R into the STL and try a 15 or 20 minute test during the early hours of the morning and then return the system to its normal processor.

My guess is that the Normal Output always remains Normal. That is, no pre-emphasis on the Normal Output at any time. The FM output would be active when FM and Transmitter are activated. If set to 50us then that FM output would be Left and Right with 50us pre-emph. Normal would still be the normal (no pre-emph) stereo output.

What I experienced was, when I activated FM and Transmitter the Normal went to Mono. What have I done wrong, or is my understanding of what should happen wrong?

I want to do a test of the software on air so I can tick the "Tested" box and purchase the software. It's a magic product.

Regards,
Clipper

station-drz,

Thanks for the reply.

I only want analogue outputs of Left and Right audio with 50us pre-emph at this stage for a quick test.

If the sample rate is set at 44.1 shouldn't I get this out of the FM out?

Thanks,
Clipper

I'm guessing you have enabled either stereo coding or rds coding? If so, the output will be an MPX signal, and that's always mono.

By the way: By using a separate stereo coder you WILL loose quality. Not that much with the released version, but with the - now in beta and soon to be released - composite clipper the difference will be big.

I think i know what you want to do. There is no such L/R output in ST. Might be nice to have it.

I think there is one: in the soundcards-tab, set the sample rate to either 44,1 or 48 kHz. Then go to FM-Output and enable it. Then, in FM-Transmitter-Tab, activate "Enabled", "Pre-Emphasis" and "Pre-Emphasis Out". De-activate "Encode Stereo" and "Encode RDS". Then you should get what you want...

Ow, yes.. but RDS must be OFF and also new Composite Clipper (if latest beta is used)

Thank you for all your replies and advice. Appreciated.

I will set it up and give ST a run on air early Sunday morning. Our engineering department told me they have two M-Audio Audiophile 192 cards which have been modified so we're looking at setting one of them up for MPX and using that instead of L + R audio.

That's always better way!.. since you will use ST's clipper. But also.. you need to have good L/R or MPX STL. Recommending L/R STL and connecting cable directly from soundcard to mpx transmitter input.
