Hi
I have been using stereotool for ages. Then I don't know if there was an aoutomatic upgrade for Stereotool or aomething, but it changed to the new version 7. Maybe I OK'd a new version, not sure, Anyway it worked ok with Winamp a couple of times, but now Winamp opens by itself - SteroTool is just GONE. It's not showing up as a plugin, it isn't showing up in my list of programs. I've tried downloading it a bunch of times and each times it says it is loaded, would I like to start Winamp with it as the default plugin and I say yes - but no StereoTool.

Norton says it's safe, I turned off the stupid Windows Smartscreen filter; there must be something that just keeps uninstalling it but I don't see anything in my program list that would do that. Norton isn't doing it. CCLeaner wouldn't do it. I don't know what to try next. I can't go back to music without Stereotool...it just don't sound like music anymore.
Please help?
Thanks
Phil

First, Stereo Tool doesn't update automatically - the only way to get version 7 on your system is if you (or someone else?) downloaded and installed it.

Then this disappearing. I have no idea what that can be - is it maybe possible that you have multiple Winamp installations on your system and are installing Stereo Tool it in a different on than the one you are using? (Think 32/64 bit Program Files directories etc.).

To check if Stereo Tool is installed, go to the Winamp directory, then look inside the Plugins subdirectory. There should be a file 'dsp_stereo_tool.dll' there...

Hi
Not sure how I got 7. Maybe it was a popup said an upgrade was avilable??

Anyway, I never had a problem with 6.x, and I was able to use 7 a few times before it gave up the ghost.
I only have one Winamp installed, and it's a fresh install yestaerday. I don't have a stereotool dll, but I do have some useless plugins in there that appear to be by someone named Jason - stupid things like superspeederupper and low-fi. I don't know if this Jason kid has hijacked the stereo tool plugin - I suppose that depends on how many of you also have these Jason plugins and have no problem with stereotool.
Does stereotool show up in your list of main programs like Winamp itself, or Silverlight or Acrobat reader etc? Or is it just a dll in the plugins folder?
I don't actually see how Winamp itself comes up with a default plugin. I think it will only run one at a time.
Any more ideas anyone please?
Thanks
]Phil

- uninstall winamp,
- manually delete winamp folder,
- search and delete all files in C:/ which contain word 'winamp'
- install Winamp
- install Stereo Tool DSP

Stereo Tool 6.xx will only display in one button that switches from normal to red that there's an update available, then you need to click on it, which will open the Stereo Tool website in the browser. Then you download the latest version and press install. So not something that would happen unnoticed.

But I think what Bojcha said is a good idea: Uninstall and re-install Winamp. Stereo Tool would by the way only be visible in the Winamp plugins list, or - like I said - if you check the Winamp plugins directory (usually C:\Program files\Winamp\Plugins; Program files could also be Program files (x86)).

Hi
I will try these things on my desktop later.
I just installed Winamp and stereotool on my work laptop (never before loaded) and it works fine.
Maybe just too much crud on my desktop
Thanks
