I installed the stand-alone version of Stereo Tool (6.31). The audio is distorting almost all of the time, as if it was being played too loud. Clipping heavily, I think. Here is a screenshot I took where you can see that there are two bars going full red constantly. I have tried lowering volume levels on many different places but I can't seem to locate the source of this problem. Any ideas?

The plugin version works fine but I'm using Foobar2000 so I need the stand-alone version. |

Those bars show that the INPUT signal is too loud! So you need to lower the signal that's being sent TO Stereo Tool. If you're using Line In, go to the sound card mixer settings and lower the recording level. If you're using something like Virtual Audio Cable, my guess is that the player that you are using is distorted - or the recordings that you are playing are! |

I was actually using the sound cards "What U Hear" and lowering that volume fixed the problem. It was at 100 and I had to lower it down to 35. |

You could potentially improve the quality a bit with Stereo Tool, but I think there must be software specialized at doing this. Basically the fading hiss background sound is fairly repetitive so it must be possible to at least reduce it a lot without hurting the audio too much. But not with Stereo Tool -it's made to handle a stream of audio, not to (probably with manual input) reconstruct a single file. |

Newbie by here... Some experience...... On Winamp, turn on the EQ, flat adjusments (0 dB all frequencies), and control the output to the ST with the "preamp slidder" until you get maximum levels with "no reds" on pre-amp bars at 0 dB ....Easy.... Regards for everyone..... |

For those who use Winamp, I advise disabling the audio limiter activated by default comes, see attached image.
