Quote: Hi Hans,
That basically leaves these 2:Tested the beta 32, I tried to lower the frequency of the bass clipper 40-60-80 Hz, the result is always the same, low vibration and overall quality deteriorated. beta 23 on the air again. Best Regards In 029 I changed the bass AGC frequency (was upto 800 Hz, now upto 150 Hz) In 024 I fixed a problem where the de-esser and Improved Loudness Distortion Protection levels were multiplied by the Final Limiter level - twice instead of once. Only when the Final Limiter was enabled. So if that's the case, you need to adjust (usually lower) those settings to get the same sound as before. Is the Final Limiter enabled in your preset, and if so, what is the volume slider of it set to? And: Is the Bass AGC enabled? |

Quote: The new multiband won't completely solve it (Bojcha already checked by using another multiband compressor). But... The good news is that I've made a few changes and according to 2 people who hear the effect it's improved now. So I know what to do, and I expect to have a fix tomorrow or Monday.
Can you be sure to make the change optional, just in case that "fixing" it for one group "breaks" it for another group?
Actually it's really simple: If the bass is asymmetrical, I need to clip it a bit harder. |

Quote: I told you once. that your prestet and ALL presets that uses gate like that are 100% not acceptable in broadcast world and even in for home listening.
I've been thinking about this comment. I've said before that I respect you. However, I take exception with what you said here. Why? Since I haven't been able to sleep, I decided to grab those Sound FreakDay files... If you change my AGC settings to be a -4.0 dB Target Output, and then match your singleband limiter, final limiter, and loudness settings, if viewed with Breakaway RTA, my modified preset is pretty much exactly neck-and-neck with the test preset (Bangkok Dynamic based). I think at most I noticed a 1 dB difference, and that probably could be narrowed with some other non-AGC changes (multiband / bass boost). Yes, it distorts, but that's because I didn't take the time to recalibrate multiband, and specifically the EQ settings in multiband. Your preset is aiming for more highs and less bass due to the highs will get reduced by FM reception and make the bass appear stronger. My preset was never intended for FM, thus the highs are not as loud, and the bass is louder. So, ultimately, the gating at ~ -10 dB is not what is making my preset "not acceptable for broadcasting", although that should be changed to "not acceptable for broadcasting at a level competing with other broadcasters in the loudness war". It is simply because you've turned up the volume to 11 on yours, but not on mine, which is not a fair comparison. Edit: BTW, scaling yours down to mine results in faster up speeds that cause an extremely rapid rise at 2:40, and then a massive rise at the 3:17 point in "The Pretender", making the volume suddenly dramatically louder, which then has to rely on the spike protection that Hans added to bring it back down, where as mine does not have that sudden rapid rise in either place. Please, respect me, and compare apples with apples, not apples with oranges. No, neither one of us designed what we made for use in the other environment, but that is exactly the point! Although, I think mine scales up better than yours scales down... ![]() |

Hans , Any chance to have in Highpass filter 10th and why not 12th order instead of now max 8th. think that is a good idea. Everyone will make his choice. |

Quote: If you change my AGC settings to be a -4.0 dB Target Output,... If you change that setting (Target Output) it has much more influence than the naked dB difference between the original output value and the new, because you change the weighting (balance) of quiet (old) and loud tracks (the individual distance to the desired target output).IMO it would be better to have an additional offset option in AGC (+/- dB post target output). |
