Absolutely, positively NOT, at least not with the DSP version, and with no other software being used in the processing chain.

Bottom line for me is I still do not hear what you all are claiming is a problem, and that's why I'm so adamant about not spending additional time chasing a potential non-problem, when working on an improved multiband and possibly an improved (less fast rising) AGC would provide far more "bang for the buck".
I am not adulterating the sound by employing some other plugin in the chain. Your long winded reply and explanation to what you are NOT hearing prompted me to try with a different pair (Sennheiser HD 280 Pro).
Now I didn't state as to what filter in the chain is causing what I hear. It could be the cumulative effect of all the explanation that you gave.
But over here, I clearly can perceive the whiff of air that comes off Toni Braxton's voice is ever so slightly distorted. So is the sibilance at few places.
To me this sounds little aggravated with the usage of single band compressor in Non-RMS mode. Shouldn't suggest that it goes off completely if I disable this compressor.

Of course this is not perceptible on MX12.

What I do agree with is the part about pushing this topic off and making room for things which probably hold *more* significance.

Hans,

It is what it is. The "newcomer" is actually woefully uninformed, as Phoenix and I both listen using headphones, which is abundantly clear with his post above this one that I'm going to comment on in a second. In that he says that he tried "a different pair". I knew headphones were involved, and my comparison was with headphones as well.

I know that I have a good ear. I also know that the reproduction equipment changes the dynamics, which I explicitly stated in some post here lately.

So the really big speakers, and then my text made red and my side being depicted with significantly smaller speakers were uninformed jabs, with me taking the brunt of that jab.

Beyond that though, I'm sick and tired of being expected to be the one that is meek. If, as the Bible says, the meek are supposed to inherit the Earth, then by golly, where's my inheritance?

So, do I mean it? Yes, I mean it. I'm calling the person out for the uninformed jab. It's your forum and your product, so you can do whatever you wish, and I'll make my decisions about my contributions accordingly.

The key words that I see here are "ever so slightly".

There is also the possibility of the power of suggestion. The suggestion is out there that there is a problem, and you may be more willing to buy into the suggestion than I am. Alternatively, it is possible that I am the one who is influenced by my lack of believing that there is a problem, to the point of where I dismiss there being a problem.

If people are going to quibble over what is, in your own words, something that is "ever so slightly" different, then it is not something that should be given much of a priority, so at least we agree that there are probably more important things out there.

My apologizes to Brian or any other member here, if my sense of humor was to a degree that offended anyone. The picture I posted was just a passing humorous thought which went through my head at the moment after reading the posts. Brian your posts are not without validity and your views merits much consideration as I also do feel at times you have taken the words out of my mouth, as I had gone back and read many of your posts.

I have been monitoring the posts here for a few months now and find it quite refreshing to find so many music enthusiasts with such intense insight and determination to gain the best possible audio reproduction from their music collection. You guys are perfectionist! :D

I have been using the Bangkok_06_Dyn4.sts configuration (with a few minor adjustments) which sounds excellent on my system, especially with this ST v35 release. It has sort of a late 60’s sound to it (while playing my US oldies). I do notice voice vibrations in some of the recordings I listen to, which has been a frustration to me because seems like everyone else I know is deaf to them. I found the voice vibrations become less annoying if you convert (from a CD or FLAC) the songs up to 192/32 wav. Unfortunately, they take up a lot of HD space. :geek:

Fair enough...

Probably. The main source of disagreement here is I would like to have more dynamic content, and these presets being discussed are more aimed at "volume control to 11"-type of loudness.

@Phoenix - try this modification of the preset you linked and see if you think it is better or worse. I've been listening to these ear-bleeding levels for a while now, so I am not sure...

It may need a little further reduction in either the final limiter (called final clipper now) or in the amount of loudness applied.

Hans,

I went back to beta 23, the low frequency problems seem much smaller.

I would like an opinion of yours and other users.

take a listen to my stream www.radioenergy.to

thanks

Hi NRG,

I've looked up the changes that might be interesting for this since beta023. Can you describe what difference you hear exactly? And at which setting did you set the Quality slider in the main window?

034 contains a new (different) bass clipping slope - you might need to set the bass clipping levels in Loudness a bit lower!
032 contains a lower quality bug fix, and new window shape that causes a lot less artifacts. But more at lower Quality settings (I still need to check why)
In 029 I changed the bass AGC frequency (was upto 800 Hz, now upto 150 Hz)
027 is hole protection CPU usage reduction (less oversampling)
In 024 I fixed a problem where the de-esser and Improved Loudness Distortion Protection levels were multiplied by the Final Limiter level - twice instead of once. Only when the Final Limiter was enabled. So if that's the case, you need to adjust (usually lower) those settings to get the same sound as before.
And in 023 itself I fixed an AGC gating issue.

I'm not sure any of the changes you listed are responsible.

With the specific example of "Un-Break My Heart", I am hearing the bass distorting. I truly think that the vocals are clean, but the bass distortion and its' harmonics are cascading upwards and making people think that the vocal is distorting. I've disabled loudness, and I still hear it.

Of course, ultimately, I could be sniffing glue...

And that wasn't the case in BETA023?
