Dequantizer example:
Input (4 bit not dithered): http://www4.zippyshare.com/v/6kSlkuc7/file.html
Output: http://www20.zippyshare.com/v/MHHvpjsJ/file.html
I still need to make it detect the bit depth automatically. And it probably doesn't work properly in the stand alone version, because you have all kinds of connections before it.
I'm sorry, but how does this black magic work?

HOW DOES IT WORK???

The difference between the two is amazing.

This is black magic and witchcraft.

Update regarding Linux: using now a Ubuntu 64 bit setup. ST runs flawlessly.

lol
Many others didn't belive that it's possible. I don't even ask myself "how" anymore.

I'm reporting him for practising witchcraft.

Someone told me 2 weeks ago that it wasn't possible (I actually figured out how to do it at the NAB in 2011, but never took the time to try it out). Anyway, when people tell me that something isn't possible I just have to prove them wrong :) . So, if anyone else wants something impossible, tell me :) :)

I'll give you a hint though. This person told me that it wasn't possible. I recorded these two samples the next day.

Little guess :) Does it work by interpolation to higher bit resolution and then (probably frequency-sloped - emphasized to high freqs) noise reduction with noise floor matched with maximum achievable SNR according to former bit resolution?

edit: trying to say it better - removal of frequencies under maximum possible noise floor of former bit resolution sound; that would explain bubbly artifacts in "detail-less" sound using extremely low bit settings in Dequantizer :)

but it works awesome! :) even with no audible dithering

Does this also work with "ADPCM coded" files? The problem with these is that the higher the sound is more distortion there. ADPCM sounds better than 8-bit, but sometimes scratches. Has anyone tried it? I can not try it because I have no such file at hand.

It can be adjusted for that - but it would need information from the ADPCM decoder to know the amount of noise at each moment.

Hi Hans !.
Something like this would be great for calls from listeners :) :

Ow - something like this is definitely on my wish list.... The samples on the site don't sound too convincing on my phone, will check them out on my headphone tonight.
