This is only an evidence for my words that with ST everything is possible .
Some guy was pretty hot back in the days for the Orban/ST compare.

I have done a very quick attempt to replicate the Unveil compressor settings in Analog mode. I've only tested it with 3 tracks so far but it seems pretty close. In fact, even less pumping in one of the two attempts.
thank you very much! it really sounds very cool! you satisfied me that the compressor is really great! now i am looking forward to the updated help. maybe then I understand the new switches and settings. ;)

Ok, I'm currently looking for a way to share the Attack and Release time settings between the Digital and Analog mode, I found a bug in the old code due to which the numbers aren't correct (I have to multiply the Attack times by 4, release seems fine though). So I need to figure out how to fix that. Anyway... When I configure both the old and the new compressor to behave roughly the same on beep tones, the new one sounds much less 'jumpy' than the old one, especially at high speeds.

Can you please explain what changes this will cause after it's fixed. Will the attack speed be faster or slower than before? Does that mean only 39% was reached instead of 86% or already almost 100%?

I will make sure that existing presets don't change. All I know right now is that when comparing the old vs. the new compressor I need to divide attack time by about 4 and release time by about 3 to get a similar sound. Which is weird. Am still busy trying to figure out where the difference comes from, could be purely a definition issue (that 86% number was weird anyway, and might be the cause).

By the way, I'm assuming the new compressor behavior to be 'the thruth', because I haven't put in any corrections to adjust the attack and release time (they are simple calculations and the behavior that I see matches the numbers). In the old one, I did have to use some tricks to make the behavior match the numbers.

BETA 761-019

Windows 32 bit:
Windows stand alone: http://www.stereotool.com/download/ster ... 61-019.exe
Winamp DSP: http://www.stereotool.com/download/dsp_ ... 61-019.exe
VST 32bit: http://www.stereotool.com/download/vst_ ... 61-019.dll

CHANGES:
- Merged more parameters (Attack Time, Release Time) with old ("digital") compressor. Adjusted numbers in Digital compressor to match the (correctly calculated) behavior in Analog mode.

Edit: Release speed seems to be too fast (too low time) in Analog mode compared to Digital. Will fix that in the next version.
Edit #2: Just found that in some presets, the level NEVER drops down to 0. Will check why...

To convert existing Digital compressor settings to Analog:
- Set Compressor Mode to Analog
- Under Levels, enable 'Traditional Peak Mode' for all bands (assuming that the existing preset was also Peak based).

OLD CHANGES:
- Merged parameters (threshold, knee, ratio, feedback, channel separation, band mix) with old ("digital") compressor, I noticed that I was switching back and forth all the time to copy settings, so this seems easier. Threshold is now also displayed in dB's.
Made Multiband version of the new compressor! Choose 'Analog' mode to switch to the new one. See attached preset for an example!
- Made new Traditional Peak mode which behaves more like normal Peak.
- Added Lookahead, removes huge spikes at start of attack for fast attack times and reduces IMD.

- Fixed Ratio behavior
- Fixed 'Density Drive' slider in Analog mode
- Fixed no audio with certain combinations of filters
- Fixed a filtering issue in the Digital compressor (!) when using Density Drive > 1.00

- Added lowpass filter to control signal to smooth out bad effects and remove distortion
- Added ITU-1770 mode to reduce pumping and improve level control
- Added Channel separation

- Rewrote all code
- Fixed Ratio
- Channels are not processed separately (wasn't the case before, and that was a bug)
- Fixed attenuation display
- Attack and Release times must be set to half the numbers of the previous beta's. Oil change speed must be doubled.

- Restored old Shape behavior from version 009
- Replaced 'Nonlinear Release' by 'Exponential Release', which works better and only needs 1 parameter. Use this to go up FASTER if you're down DEEPER.

- Added Ratio
- Added Feedback mode
- Fixed out-of-control behavior for certain extreme settings
- Fixed some more weird behavior things if the difference between Attack and Release is REALLY huge (behavior was bumpy and caused clicking sounds).

- Known issue: both Shape On settings must be enabled. I will probably remove them in the next build anyway so I'm not going to fix it.
Fixed a lot of bugs, will type the details here later. Oil Temperature is now in % and didn't work properly before. PLEASE LOAD THE DEFAULT SETTINGS for the new compressor or it will sound horrible.
Changed Attack Time, Release Time, Attack Speed Threshold, Release Speed Threshold to understandable values. Made 1.0 the 'standard' behavior for Shape.
- Added smoothing to oil temperature behavior for both attack and release.
Added Oil temperature behavior which was missing from my automatic (hydraulic) door model. Will explain below...
- Added another Peak mode slider in "New Singleband". The old one (from yesterday) works mainly on release, but in some cases the volume didn't go down fast enough on a loud sound. The new one works mainly on attack (higher value makes attack continue AFTER a peak.
- Changed Peak mode behavior in "New Singleband".
- New Singleband: Split Speed into Attack and Release Speed
- New Singleband: Made Attack and Release Speed Threshold relative to Speed - so you don't need to adjust it to change the shape.
- Added new Dequantizer filter to increase the bit depth of recordings.

TO DO COMPRESSOR:
- Slower Release speed in Analog compared to Digital
- Merge Peak/RMS setting
- Remove Shape Enable settings.
- Fix Knee in Analog mode
- Fix Aggressiveness slider behavior for Digital, compare with SB.

- OPTIMIZE

TO DO:
Fix RDS time issue! viewtopic.php?f=6&t=5941&p=28209#p28209
Fix MB frequency band shift (10%, since 7.51 or 7.60)
Add RDS control via VST typedef VstIntPtr (VSTCALLBACK *AEffectDispatcherProc) (AEffect* effect, VstInt32 opcode, VstInt32 index, VstIntPtr value, void* ptr, float opt); for Bernd N
Clipper issues Leif / Wolf Stahl (probably the same thing)

Seems like it has something to do with the knee. If I turn it down to 0 the level drops back to 0 again.

Yup. I fixed it today. Will upload a new version now.

BETA 761-020

Windows 32 bit:
Windows stand alone: http://www.stereotool.com/download/ster ... 61-020.exe
Winamp DSP: http://www.stereotool.com/download/dsp_ ... 61-020.exe
VST 32bit: http://www.stereotool.com/download/vst_ ... 61-020.dll

Note: The CPU load went up quite a bit, due to improved Knee support. I will optimize it as soon as I'm certain that it behaves as it should.

CHANGES:
- Merged more parameters (Peak vs RMS setting) with old ("digital") compressor.
- Slower Release speed in Analog compared to Digital
- Removed Shape Enable settings.
- Fixed Knee in Analog mode
- Fixed Aggressiveness slider behavior for Analog (!), made it behave the same as Digital mode (acts only on release speeds).

Post subject:  Re: Stereo Tool 7.61 BETA

But why now my preset with the Digital MB is not load like it saved ?
Times for Attack and Release are completely different .
Also the Attacktime is not to 1000ms anymore (if multiplier is at x1.00) . Why ? Only to 250ms.
I think that new options must not affect the old ones.
Even if i reload the preset - speeds in Digital are like they are not saved as they are. ?! May be wrong x4 place ? Activate it only if we select Analog mode and restore it if we select the Digital one so the speeds will be the same as we saved in the Digital section before Analog appears.
Another question is : Why is this multiplier at all ? Not to save different settings for the different types of MB ?
