In the 90s, the race for "Big Sound" was on for some radio stations, like Skyrock or Radio Service in France.
We were still in the era of all things analog: players, consoles, processing, transmitters and receivers with needles...
when you changed frequencies, you turned the dial and you had to be able to immediately recognize the station you were tuning to just by hearing its processing...
That's how the VZ40 was born.
Four DPR 402 compressors/de-essers, on four bands. Sometimes Prism processors were used beforehand, and the signal
went to the transmitter through a Stereomax and an 8100 to widen and encode the stereo image.
Those were the days...
and it hit hard!
I tried to recreate that sound with Stereotool.
It's somewhat similar...
