Hi,

How does AGC operates? It seems to me that it only reduces the volume of a song, but not the other way around, even if the RMS value is way below the set value. So, if the input is very soft, it stays that way, whereas if it is very loud, it is lowered to the set value. For example, in the “My heart will go on” song (the original recording is very soft), if you pass it through the reset value (35 or -7.89 db), AGC has virtually no effect in the volume, nor if you set the value to its maximum, where it doesn’t increase it even a bit. Is this the way AGC should function? Because if it aims to achieve a target value, it should operate both ways, moreover if it has positive values. Or am I wrong?

Keep the good work and thank you for this amazing plugin.

Daniel

hi Daniel

Try to turn off AGC Gate - "Gating Level" (Slider to left)
or
Turn off "Based on volume before preamp"

Did that, but I don't hear/see any difference. Can you make it work that way?

Maybe I should specify that I did that test using *only* AGC, with everything else dissabled (preamp at 1). For that I put Stereo Tool in reset, then turn on AGC with its given value and move this one up and down. So that might be the only setting I could post. Now, AGC's behavior depends a lot on the preamp value, but -again- only deacreasing volume. It's interesting that this AGC functions almost in the opposite way of that of Audioproc, which mainly -but not only-increases the volume of soft parts, doing some attenuation when suitable. That brought up my curiosity, but maybe the combination of preamp and AGC in Stereo Tool achieves the same goal.

Ahh..
Clear now .. you MUST set preamp to some higher level, and in same time set lower "Target Output level" in AGC to compesate.
Adjust to have AGC meters somewhere at middle.

Hi DJC,

As Bojcha said: The AGC in Stereo Tool only DECREASES the volume. So basically you use Pre Amp to set the maximum amplification... Similarly, the output volume (Target Volume) of the AGC determines the input level of the Multiband compressor/limiter (if it's turned on).

The only things in Stereo Tool that increases the volume are Pre Amp, Bass Boost and Loudness, everything else only decreases it.
