Umh...a little clueless now! The Preset 'Europe FM' has the best tonal balance and quality as per my perception, however a tad little too low on bass. Been fiddling with the settings for some time now, which actually degrades that wonderful fullness in sound. Also tracks containing extreme low bass give an impression that voice and bass are fighting for headroom.
Need help! Any suggestions are most welcome...
Thanks in advance
1st check Europe BassBoost
2on Check my preset i upload one page back
Well I did check your preset the last night itself. I guess it's tailored for online FM transmission with Orban like signature. Pretty punchy but not clean. I need something for encoding compressed audio formats for PMP. As far as using the Europe Bass Boost preset is concerned, even that bass is not quite like the rock solid bass that commercial hardware broadcasts bring out. The local FMs here donot sound as loud as ST's 'Europe FM' preset, nor do they have that kind of spectral balance the new ST beta offers. But then their bass is tight across all genres of music. Also while trying the heavy bass presets of ST, the vocals lose their prominence and the overall fullness of the sound suffers.

Wow ST is sounding good, can't wait to upgrade 5.02 at our station

Speaking of DC component (is that the same as dc bias/offset?). You can get a dc offset from equipment/ground loops etc. recording from an old record/tape player can sometimes produce it.

Does ST remove dc offsets from the input? sometimes you can get stable or varying dc offsets, our XP machine (station pc) doesn't haven't the option to remove it but in windows 7 sound system effects (my test pc) it does.

A program that does this is Goldwave, it has a filter to remove both types of these (menu: effect->filter->auto offset removal)

Hm, lots of posts to respond to!

Bojcha: But still worse than in other processors? I still have some ideas for improvements (basically I want to split the lowest part of the audio into 2 separate parts that can then each reach 70%), will check those soon.

phoenix: Will check those comparisons later...

chris: Not yet, I'll re-enable that for stronger deep bass.

camclone: Great! By the way, does the DC offset cause any issues? It is temporary only, and helps to improve the sound quality.

phoenix again: You could try to lift the bass a bit using 'Bass Boost'. Start at a low level (say 20-40% or so), and try to change the settings such that it has less effect on the fullness of the sound, but boosts the bass enough. I do have some ideas to improve loud bass handling further, but I need some time to implement them.

phoenix again: If local FM stations are less loud, it might help to reduce the 'Loudness' slider a bit - that gives everything more headroom. You are broadcasting on FM, right? Because if you're not, you should turn FM processing off (that greatly reduces the highs, giving everything much more headroom).

Russell: ST removes 0 Hz (DC offset) from the input if the highpass filter (bandpass window) is turned on. This works MUCH better if you choose non-phase linear filtering, AND THAT ALSO INCREASES THE BASS (phoenix are you reading this?).

Takeda: Thanks! :D

Hmmm, maybe that will be good...

Here is the my final results:
"Clip at" i need to set at ~60% - to totally remove voice/guitar/other warble-distortion (voice vibration caused by lows)
In same time That level (60%) is bit low, even if Bass Boost is used to 100% and Deep bass to 100%.

I again checked BBP ..
Slightly lower level preset then STs "Europe FM stereo" But sinusoide for bass in BPP is at 90/95% and there is almost no Voice vibrations!

Something more is there ... :|

With a sinusoid? Ok, then my idea won't work and I'll have to figure out another solution. Or is the bass level dropped when the voice is present? (The way you describe it I read it as: Bass level STAYS at 90/95% and still there are nearly no voice vibrations).

I make another test 8-)
As i thought ...

Most of time is strictly to let's say 90% (Like now "Clip at" in ST) but..
I isolated freqs from 0-400Hz (from BBP output) to see what is happening with bass in that moment where ST makes Voice Distortion/vibration. When comes "that" voice sound, Bass is lowered! Some fast controled lows, how much will be lowered to not cause distortion.
In same time same sound wich will be distorted is slightly lowered too.

example: In Original Track bass is constant level, but check this. BBP output. Play it thru ST (reset) set BandPass 0-400Hz!
http://www27.zippyshare.com/v/70119824/file.html

Without bandpass is hardly to notice that bass drop.
So, "Clip at" should be at, let's say 90% but dynamically lowered when needed.

@ Hans

Please, do not remove any of the options/sliders inside multiband and for the singleband c/l !
Even not these two old sliders mid-right in multiband (we talked about a few months ago) !

As I already have written earlier, there are some scenarios of processing when you don't want for example a flat response in multiband, etc.

Hi Chris,

Can you explain where you need that? Basically 'punch' means allowing more distortion if the bass would be reduced too much otherwise (and something similar with highs). However, the bass can of course never be pushed above 100%, and if I set the 'bass clip' level to 90-100% I'm getting similar bass levels as with 'punch'.

(Actually I'm asking because it seems that clean/punch doesn't do much anymore in the new setup.)

Edit: There is a bug in the latest versions due to which the sliders don't work properly. Building an updated version now; output will be slightly different. (No effect on voice vibrations expected, but frequency response should be more flat).
