Bojcha, if you do this, would you only be using the AGC (no multiband)? Because if so, I could just use the current multiband as side channel (where you could use only the equalizer) before the AGC. If I have to make a sidechain equalizer that takes a lot of work (mainly because I need to manually create and read-out all the sliders).

If it's just for testing the multiband solution is easier - if it would be part of the presets (with possibly different settings per preset) it would be worth it though.

Version with new function 'median display'.

In the Multiband window, you can now enable 'measure & show median (resets on enable)'.

Enabling this (note: This setting is not and will never be saved to disk, you have to enable it when you need it) displays the median value of each of the multiband bands since it was enabled. Turning it off and on again clears its data, so if you change a setting, turn it off and on to start a new measurement.

If you want to make sure that - on average - your multiband settings have no effect on the frequency content, play lots of songs with this (continuously) enabled, then check that the medians for all bands are at (nearly) the same level.

Note: The AGC may already have had an impact on the frequency content if you've set it to 2 or 3 bands. For best results, I think you should set the AGC to single band during this measurement. Then the Multiband has been configured to have no impact on the audio as long as both AGC bands output the same level, but if the bands differ, Multiband will bring them closer together again.

Winamp DSP plugin: http://www.stereotool.com/download/dsp_ ... A510-6.exe
Stand alone version: http://www.stereotool.com/download/ster ... A510-6.exe
VST version: http://www.stereotool.com/download/vst_ ... A510-6.dll
VST version (No SSE2): http://www.stereotool.com/download/vst_ ... A510-6.dll
Command line version: http://www.stereotool.com/download/ster ... A510-6.exe

Enjoy!

EDIT:
Hint: Since you're probably not interested in the output sound (this is after all just a measurement), if you're using Winamp, use these tips to greatly speed up the measurement:
1. If you're using Winamp, use the Disk Writer output - that way Winamp doesn't have to wait until the audio has been processed and processing occurs at the maximum possible speed (using all the CPU power available).
2. You're only interested in what happens upto Multiband. So you can turn off Final Limiter, Loudness, Hard Limit etc. (Keep Noise gate, Bandpass, AGC 1 band and pre-emphasis on!).

EDIT #2:
1: This measurement does not take the equalizer into account, unless you use it 'before multiband'.
2: I've measured a bunch of songs, and overall, both the very deep (40 Hz) bass and the highs (esp. around 10 kHz) are too loud at the default settings.

EDIT #3:
This really helps, I almost have a flat response now!

Hans,
Exelent!.. Now you may have to look again at what i have said for ratio adjustment.
Bands need to be more open!

High-bass songs always sound 'thin' and first impression is "need bass!", so everyone is pushing bass (mostly in multiband, now in bass boost and 'deep bass boost), and when you play some nice pop/rock song bass is present much more then should.

Bojcha,

Is that still the case if you use a singleband AGC? Because in high bass tracks, often the AGC removes more bass than highs (Video Phone is the best example of that, but it happens in much more tracks).

yes.. it's only about multiband..
i still use that song as good example! As you said it happens in much more track, not to groups, but in almost every rap/r'n'b/house/etc tracks.
Anyway with 'one-band-agc" seems more natural but rms is lost too much.

You can clearly see when that deep bass kicks how that first band going down and makes that bass so thin.
Try to Up that bass by setting that band 'soft limit' up to top (10).. here its .. almost normal. but for other tracks ofcourse not good. Even not good in same song when that huge bass is not present.

Ok, clear. So basically loud bass should 'break though' the maximum setting as specified by Multiband. (Which is basically what knee+ratio accomplishes)

Video Phone is the best example of that
I have just googled this ("Video Phone").
I am little bit confused.
Ok, it is Lady Gaga featuring Beyonce.
I know on "The Fame Monster" is a track called "Telephone".
Is this the song you are talking about ?
And "Video Phone" only the name of the video (but same song as "Telephone") ?
Or is "Video Phone" a different song (additional single release) ?
