Possible solutions:
1. Add the old pre limiter filter, only for highs, after the AGC again
2. Lower the highs frequencies in the presets using the equalizer and/or soft limit values.
3. Lower the 'allow louder highs' setting / allow negative values or move the base level
4. 3-band AGC (?)

That might be a better solution for (1). I could add a 3rd band, that's linked to the maximum volume of band 2, but can get lower if needed (not higher).

By the way, since no-one complained about this before, how much worse is it than in version 4.22? (Since it probably depends on the type of music that you play, it might differ a lot between different users)

Should be nice, and the leveler gurus talking about something called sum/diff matrix:

For rap 'songs' 5.0 sounds better then 4.22. Same for jazz. No complaints here.

I remember first beta with AGC. ... and yes there is difference for sure. But i liked it because Highs are more Open with "AGC"

3-band AGC should be very nice! i know that 2nd band is locked to NOT go under 1st, but 3rd band can do that if it's needed ?

1st- 0-16000 \
2nd- 200-16000 [Hz]
3rd- ???- 16000 /

Question.

I burned some tracks - processed with Stereo Tool, FM Loud Bass Boost Europe preset with Loudness set to 4.00 - on a CD and listened to it in my car.

My impression is that the highs are too loud, and the sound lacks some 'warmth'. This might be due to the settings in this preset - the sound IS clean and there are no pumping or other effects when loud highs are present.

Also, I just received an email with the following text: "The sound of version did not please me 5.0 Many
high-frequencies sssss and sharps shi shi."

Any feedback on this? I was thinking about lowering the highest few bands in the equalizer in the multiband compressor (probably with 'before multiband' enabled to keep the same peak level, but reduce in-between levels). Maybe only the highest band.

Maybe something else wrong Hans.
Your cables. You need to take a look at this http://www.monstercable.com/productdisplay.asp?pin=4605
What this cable will do 'Monster XPHP uses Time Correct windings for more accurate transfer of the signal as it travels down the wire. This results in extended high and low frequency response, improved imaging, and deep, tight bass. A Special LPE (Linear Polyethylene) dielectric insulation reduces signal loss for greater overall clarity in the music'
Maybe you should replace the cables with this type!

LOL! Isn't that the same brand that's selling 1.5 meter HDMI cables for 140 euro - for signals that are already digital?! They sell those in TV stores: "If you buy a TV like this, you don't want to use cheap cables". Duh.

Anyway, I burned it directly to CD so I'm pretty sure that nothing went wrong there. (Until about 1.5 years ago, I recorded it on a cassette tape which I played in my car, THEN I could have believed that I did something wrong...)

I'll shortly post a version here with 3 AGC bands.

- 3 AGC bands
- Multiband 'soft limit' now behaves as expected, at 4096 samples latency
- 0.88 -> 1.00 in some FM presets

NOTE: This is a very quick hack; I haven't looked at performance effects etc. Also, the 3 AGC bands now use exactly the same settings - I think the 'up speed' for the 3rd band must be set a lot higher (now a loud 'S' lowers the highs for quite some time).

Suggested value for AGC 3rd band: around 0.20 (20%) for only a small drop in highs, unless there's a lot of highs in the input. Lower means less highs. 1.00 means no change compared to using 2 bands. This is the volume of the audio above ca. 3500 Hz compared to the total volume. The part of this band that is actually USED is above 5000-13000 (sliding scale) Hz.

Damn! I forgot to upload them! Please wait a moment...

Edit: Ok, now it's online. You should see 3 bands if you open the AGC window (main window is not yet adjusted)
