Trying to tweak ST to provide similar bass response to WSHE Chicago. Take a listen to this setting and let me know what you think. You can get an idea of what I'm after if you listen live at the station's website. I've tried to emulate the 12db/oct as in the Omnia, but perhaps the Chicago market is Vorsis-based? Don't know...just can't seem to find the secret sauce. :-)

Thanks for your input!

-Jason

Sounds nice, but when i turn off Advanced clipper the levels are buried deep into the red zone.

to be honest, my own preset, The Pulse v1, sounds as close to the WSHE sound as you can get.

Made a mashed up mod between your preset and guntherm's MB2_urban and running them right now on my station, sounds a lot nicer than than WSHE's stream.

Hey jdave...thanks for the input! I had no idea how much the Advanced Clipper was doing to the obnoxious levels I was sending it. Funny thing is, I load up your profile and it sends everything into the red as well? Don't quite get that. At any rate, nice setting profile!

I tried a couple of things in relation to your thoughts. First, I turned on the Simple Clipper with Hard Limiting enabled. I changed the two lowest MB band settings to RMS instead of Peak. I adjusted the Pre-amp up to +12.04db. I also dropped the AGC Power Bass "Ignore Lowest" by half and bumped the "extra" to 12 db. Question about AGC: is it kosher to do what I'm doing in AGC instead of pre/post AGC? I configured 3 bands, and dropped the Band Linking down so that the highs aren't as harsh. I suppose you could sort of do this in the MB section. I also configured a sidechain EQ setting so that AGC would tend to leave the low bands alone.

There's now some more of that "growl" that I kind of like with these last tweaks. It's noticeable on the analog and HD channels of the big guys in the Chicago market. :-)

Anyway, I've posted v2.1 of the settings and invite further thoughts.

Thanks!

-Jason

"Funny thing is, I load up your profile and it sends everything into the red as well? "

Both of you on the same version? I have two setups with ST... One, on the production computer I used to test rips under the processing and the one at the transmitter. Newest version borked my settings on the prod box, granted I hadn't upgraded ST since 7.5 something or other.

My FM is still on 7.43! Not sure if I want to update it or not because it sounds really sweet as it is now, and "if it's not broke..." applies. I'll admit MBL2 is kinda nice, though.

I'm at the point where I'm ready to re-rip the entire library so I can make sure all files sound how they need to sound. There are some files in there that just plain sound awful. That happens when you have two people ripping 15000 tracks from various media, mostly vinyl. We had a rumble problem on one turntable which wasn't evident until it went on air, where it erupted like an audio volcano! I've since replaced that turntable but some files are in the system. Had another issue with a cartridge player. THAT was fun, and most songs ripped from the cart library we don't have on vinyl.

Taking your v2.1 file, i further tweaked it, reducing MB Drive to +4.0db and other small tweaks.

I have it running now, sounds good on my stream right now, real aggressive punch, while being very clean at the same time (very close to an FM transmitter like sound.)

Maybe that's where things are going off the rails a bit - I'm running v7.72. I'm going to download the same version you're using, and retry. I'll also load up the new settings you posted!
