Has anyone had any experience at trying to get near the sound of some of those Optimod PCI presets?

I used to work on a net station that had the PCI card processing the output stream and it was on a whole other level.. everyone who listened admitted they liked the sound and it's what made the listening hours more pleasurable - but then again the majority of people who I asked were audio colleagues too.

The bass felt almost plasticy at the best of times but it seemed to encourage an amazing punch.

https://clyp.it/oukwlmb4 - Here is a copy of an aircheck taken from the output (it no longer broadcasts).

The things I would do to be able to hit the same sound as that, with today's streaming encoders (basically higher bitrate :D) are unspeakable.

I got close with Breakaway a year ago, BUT software processing has it's limitations, and that's where you get when you want to copy the sound.
For instance, Orban has a great bass punch from 30Hz to 500Hz, if you try this with BA or ST you always have a dip somewhere.
Second I'm pretty sure their bass management has a big bottom (Aphex) on board, when using ST together with a Aphex you also come close.
I have all three here, the Pc1101 and BA and ST but for some reason it won't be the same. I think you have to make a compromise and try to get as close as you can to copy the sound.
But Orban is Orban, if you want that particular sound, buy one.

Yeah I get what you're saying.

My main problem is that my station's server isn't co-located or self hosted. It's managed by OVH so there's not a chance in anyway that I could turn up with some hardware to install into one of their servers.
Hopefully with the new Optimod PCn software solution I might be able to get closer.. or at least I can hope aha, as you said there really is limits on what software can do. I actually have a personal login that was gifted to me for Omnia's software solution and honestly.. I'm not taken by it.

In all seriousness though trying to pick up a 1101 second swaps in the UK is a rarity. I can't justify spending money on the full price tag for something that I will most likely not be able to put in use - maybe at some point if I can find a local co-location host then I can get my hopes back up again haha.

Omnia is peanuts to copy, ST is much more powerful than the Omnia 9, who needs Leif anyway
Here is a small video, how my preset blows away most of the other FM stations

Well it's a small tweaked preset from Bojcha "Diggy Down" viewtopic.php?f=10&t=5876
So most of the credits goes to him, I just added a little more bass punch and a 2 channel AGC with the in build compressor to relief multiband from getting punched too much, very nice with 70s and 80s music.
