Another example:
All Ratios = inf:1
Threshold of band 6 and 7 = +12dB
Band 6 has 3-6kHz, Band 7 6-15kHz.

A 4.5kHz tone comes with +24dB.
Band 6 goes down to -12dB.
With all linking = 0 all other bands have 0dB.

Now the Band6 > Band7 Linking is set to 50%.
Band 7 goes down to -6dB.

Now a second tone with 10kHz comes to the first tone.
Its Level is +6dB - No change at all.
Its Level is +12dB - No change at all.
Its Level is +14dB - No change at all.
Its Level is +18dB - No change at all.
Its Level is +20dB - Band 7 goes further down from -6 to -8dB.

And now the linking is set to 0% again - No change at all.

Well, because of what I said. Anyway, I've implemented that method now too and am running a build now, so in a few hours we can hear what it sounds like.

I've changed the numbering to make the effect decrease with higher numbers:

1. What was called Method 2.
2. What was called Method 1, same as in previous beta.
3. My method 5.
4. What RobertSack just said.

Edit: @RobertSack: Just read your last post, if you say it like that it seems to make sense. But I still think it cannot be good. But we'll see :)

BETA023: TEST VERSION FOR BAND LINKING METHODS

Windows 32 bit:
Windows stand alone: http://www.stereotool.com/download/ster ... 52-023.exe
Winamp DSP: http://www.stereotool.com/download/dsp_ ... 52-023.exe

In the Band Link section under Multiband there's a new Method slider, which can be set to:
  • 1. Difference in dB; the difference in dB between bands will be reduced by set percentage.
  • 2. Difference in %: At a big relative difference the effect is less. Same behavior as previous beta.
  • 3. Locks the coupled band below a point above the source band. (The percentage in the settings is converted to dB's, so 50% = 6 dB).
  • 4. Locks the coupled band below a point relative to the amount of attenuation of the source band. (if a band is at -12 dB with 50% coupling the other cannot get above -6 dB, for -24 that's -12).
4 will cause a different sound at different input levels, the others should not do that.

1 will push the coupled band down the most, 3 the least; 4 depends on the absolute levels so it's impossible to give a statement about its behavior.

Edit: As expected method 1/2 sound better than 3/4 at the same settings ("better" defined as more natural, less sucked-up ultra-highs). Now I'll just wait what you (mainly Robert...) make of this :)

Hans, I hope you can improve the optimized version of phase shaping further.. Un uptomized version is better but the cpu can barely handle it.

Wow, Method 4 works exactly like expected.

With higher Levels going to the Multiband section the effect is less - hihger band differences are allowed.

I´m still testing...

Regards,
Robert

They should be identical - aren't they??? Then please send me your settings for testing!
