Hi there!

One thing that bothers me right from the start when I first heard audio processed with Stereo Tool. I don't know where it comes from exactly and apparently some people hear it and some don't, so I decided to upload some examples for you to listen and judge for yourself. The problem regards croaky, vibrating artifacts on loud voices, when also strong low-frequency component is present. The more this LF components resemble simple tone and the louder the voice, the worse these artifacts appear.

Few examples below:

U2 - Ordinary Love, ST 7.51 Unveil FM preset (but it's apparent on nearly every of them)

This was even worse with the old multiband, I upload this one for you to know what to focus on:

And again 7.51 and Unveil

Sia-Elastic Heart:

Any idea? It's driving me crazy sometimes. I think it might be simply a processing-design problem.
There were reports that also pure tones could become distorted (in 7.51 beta thread).

Kind regards,
Slawomir

Yes i am noticing the same problem. IMD is a problems which exist from the softest preset to the balls to the wall loud ones. I've done some test in the past and found that ST distorts even with simple sine waves. It rings and make LF sound horrible.

Thank you very much.

That 1st and 2rd image are far more extreme than what I have ever seen - which Latency and Quality settings are you using? Lowering Quality can make shapes (much) worse...

Hm, I tried it here (with the latest beta, don't know if that makes a difference); and I did hear the same effect but far less strong.

Aha, I am noticing now however that at lower Quality settings the effect is much worse. Actually that's useful into - if I can make the effect worse it's also easier to try to analyze what causes it.

all of the samples are 4096 latency and load was set low but that's a very simple waveform to be distorted. When music is applied the effect is far worse

The two pics you mention are taken from the last beta. (7.52)

By "load" do you mean Quality? If so please try Quality 100%.

just to note: in my tests, quality=100%, 4096 samples. And one more thing to indicate - all the samples were recorded from demodulated MPX source that came from ST directly.

Here you are. The in the same link there are now to more pics. The new pics are with the CPU Load slider set to 100 (and thus the pics have -100% in their name)

BTW I think that it is awful for just a sine wave ..... Remember if there is a problem with just a sine how a complex signal is going to be....

And yes SlawomirB i have the same problems with IMD even on 100% cpu load slider

Kostas, could you please send the raw files that you used for these tests (I want to try it for myself and see what the result will be)? Or it wasn't from the files but from generator?
