Stereo Tool 7.44 is available!

Changes:
  • Error message about bad sound card ID's changed (it does not always require a restart).
  • Bug fix: FM transmitter synchronization did not function properly in stand alone version.
  • Bug fix: Setting some AGC settings to 0 could 'lock' the AGC. Setting to 0 no longer possible.
  • Bug fix: Changing MB flatness or frequency sliders no longer causes weird noises.
  • Bug fix: Invalid (NAN) values sent to compressor and clipper are now handled gracefully.
  • Bug fix: Loading a preset turned auto-start with Windows and watchdog off.
  • Bug fix: Sound card watchdog sometimes kicked in too soon - changed the timing.
  • Bug fix: AM frequency display is now hidden when no updates are calculated.
  • Presets: AM presets now turn on AM mode, US AM presets also turn on AM pre-emphasis.

I just ran both the 32 and 64 bit installer through that site that Bojcha posted a screenshot of (virustotal), and it shows clean (in 53 virus different virus scanners) for the 32 bit version and 1 detection (out of 45 virus scanners, so it's a false positive) in the 64 bit installer (the scanner is ClamAV). Both the 32 and 64 bit versions themselves (after installing) are clean in all 53 scanners.

64bit still can't play stream via VLC.

GUI issue remains. In fact, it might be worse... :(

Natural Dynamics appears to behave slightly differently in the last 2 versions compared to version 7.42. Got a complaint from someone that it sounds less good. Will look into it.

I had a station complain that it didn't sound as good when I went from 7.42 to 7.44... It does seem like something is going on. Please share if you find a problem.

I'm building an update now, will test it more thoroughly tomorrow. Basically, the difference in transient detection (which is good for the limiter because it distorts less) is causing the bass to be increased for a longer period than before in Natural Dynamics, which gives excessive bass, and the mids are boosted about 2 dB less. I have restored the old behavior now... I hope that's all (the rest is very similar, but not PERFECTLY identical so I still have to check if there's a noticeable difference - I'm guessing that the improved transient detection also slightly affects the release behavior of the compressors. Which seems to slightly change the output level (probably in the order of 0.1 dB or so - but I'll measure it more precisely tomorrow when the release is available, there's also always a difference between release and debug builds).

BTW: The new version will also have a (still very rudimentary, I worked only a few hours on it so far) new stereo widener.
