I am new to Stereo Tool but use other software namely BBP ASIO this software is good, but limited in your control options.
I use an outboard sound card - an FA66 connected to the PC via firewire and use a high spec PC running windows 7 64bit.
I downloaded the standalone version of the Stereo tool software. The software can see the FA66 via the ASIO option in configuration settings and I can see the ASIO control panel.
However the only way I can route the input and output audio from the FA66 is to run up BBP ASIO and then use the bypass setting in this software.
Audio from my microphone and output to the transmitter from the FA66 is via analog XLR cable.

I am very impressed with the results from Stereo Tool but wonder if there is a way of avoiding the need to run BBP ASIO and then bypass this software.

Regards

Welcome!

What goes wrong if you try to use the audio from the sound card directly? Do you get an error message? Which color do the input and output buffer displays have? (should be GREEN for ASIO).

Thanks for the quick response. I have resolved the issue of having to run BBP ASIO. Did not see the FA66 input and outputs on the configure list list.
I have been trying the low latency output but I am getting distortion have you any guidance you can give me.

Regards

Just to check: You're not using the latest beta right? Because in that version the low latency output is broken.

If you hear distortion, try reducing the low latency volume slider. There's no clipper in this output.

Hi,

I am using version 7.40 as I said I am very happy with the results so far but low latency is important to me and if I can achieve the same as BBP ASIO I will move to your product.

My set up as follows:-

FA66 sound card under firewire control.
Under the 'normal' output in ST everything works fine, good results and can produce profiles as I wish. At the moment I am using a profile which uses the advanced clipper but the software is not registered.
When I disable the 'normal' output and use the 'LQ Low Latency' output I get reduced output level and distortion.
Under the ST 'CPU and Latency' settings I have 'Process Priority' = High, Latency' = 4096 samples'
Under the ST 'ASIO' settings' in the control panel for the FA66 I have buffer size = mid and ASIO = normal (options are larger, normal, smaller)
Under the ST 'LQ Low Latency' settings I have the buffer size = 0.001 sec
Under the ST 'Sample rate' it is set at 48Khz

Are there any other settings I can give you in order the help?

Also is there any way I can send to you a small mp3 file so that you can hear the type of distortion - I think you have my email address is you want to send me yours.

Regards

"LQ Low Latency" is used only for monitoring - the signal is indeed a lot softer (it does not get clipped or limited). If you want a lower latency signal that you can actually use for something else than monitoring, lower the 'Latency' (4096) setting, 1024 should still sound more or less ok.

0.001 seconds of buffer might be too little.

You can send me a recording - but today I have redesigned the whole low latency output thing, so you could also try out the new beta version that I'll post tonight or tomorrow morning.

Thanks for the quick response I will wait and download the beta version. In the mean time I will try changing a few settings as you suggest.

Hi,

Have downloaded your beta version and got my head around ST now. Latency now as low as BBP and I must say that ST is sounding very good on my AM station with good reports from my AM friends in Canada and the USA.

Thanks for all your help.

Cool! If you're using AM, make sure that you have asymmetric clipping and limiting enabled :)
