Hello Hans,
Prior i wrote some new AGC stuff.
Here i have an idea for a fully new feature for this section to better determine the desired dynamic range without going into risk of having "low- level- holes".
It should be possible to determine the ratio according to the momentary - over a few seconds integrated - output value.
It should be drawable like your Eqalizer or Sidechain filters.
So you can e.g. determine that if the level is near the adjusted Target level the ratio should be less, but if the level drops, the gain reduction should rise with a higher ratio.
So you can determine an area (near the Target) forcing the AGC doing less (or nothing) while having higher ratios if the AGC must rise low level passages or limit too loud passages.
I tried to attach a Picture with an Example- Graph, but it is not possible for me...
It is a Graph with the AGC- Output level relative to its Taget on the X- axis and the AGC- Ratio (exponential) on the y- axis.
The curve should be free drawable.
Threre is still another feature: It should be possible to let the ratio go to values under "1:1". There you can expand a little bit the dynamics around the target level to make smaller level changes in source material bigger, but always in the controlled range.
Al in all it should be possible to perfectly tune your desired dynamics or level changes to your needs.
And people who want to have a traditional AGC Behavior can draw a flat line at e.g. 4:1 or 10:1.
Do you think it´s a good idea?
Can you tell me why i cannot load bmp- Files? It says "the extension bmp is not allowed". I tried also renaming to txt, but the same error message did occur.
Looking forward to hear from you!

Best Regards,
Robert Sack

2. Ratio less then 1:1 - ok

1. There is already simpler solution to do that without touching AGC ratio used by.. almost every other processor. (Ariane is famous because that) It's called "Window".
You set "window" size (usually 3-5dB) where speeds are slower. That is "zone" around target. Speeds for "zone" are adjustable. Some AGCs uses VERY low speeds there ("zone").

There are are quite a lot new AGC designs using statistical processing, floating gates, dynamic eq-ing for flat frequency response and morphing between singleband and multiband compressor. Most of them are file-based but some are realtime.
Let us see what the future brings and Hans comes up with. :D
