Hello I am having Problems under RDS setting the Station PI Code I select POP Music from the drop Down List and it still says country on my rds radio. It seems that it doesnt make a difference what I choose it still says country on the radio in my car. All other rds feeds work on the text section but just cant get it to change for that. Does anyone have any ideas thanks...

This isn't an answer but it may provide a clue. I was trying to get the Omnia 9 to read Country & it said something else (Unknown or Other?). Turned out that there are 2 standards RBDS and RDS. The Omnia 9 was set up for the European standard & the 9 was in use the the US.

True I still need to fix that. But, each selection should still map to something different. Could it be that your radio doesn't refresh the value? (I've seen that even for the PS text on some radios in the past).

That is interesting how do you change it off of European. I will have to try a different drop down and save it out as a template close stereo tools and reopen then try my rds to see if it changes. I may have to shut down the transmitter so the radio refreshes. I dont think that is it because I can select non and then country goes away...

Hmm... Are you referring to the RDS PTY rather than the PI code?

Maybe this will help: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Radio_Data ... gram_types

Not sure how accurate it is?

That chart is handy thank you now how do I set it in stereo tools because when I use the drop down and select pop music nothing displays on the rds receiver. Do I have to have something in the PI code space...thanks

Ok after a few more tests if i select pop music from the drop down list and select PYI is dynamic I loose the PS text and it puts 0000 in the station PI code slot but I still have the radio text if I unselected the PYI is dynamic I still dont have it until I set the Station PI Code to all FFFF I get both but it says country and not POP Music what am I doing wrong its got to be something simple that is why I think it has something to do with the Station PI Code. What do I put into that space...thanks..

Setting a PI code would probably be a good idea as it is a sort of identifier. You can do a web search to see what information is needed to generate one.

Regarding the PTY, you could try this: Leave the Dynamic PTY box in ST unchecked and pick a PTY type from the right of the table (i.e. RBDS Program type) that I linked to on wikipedia, lets pick 'Top 40' as an example. (There is no 'Pop' in the RBDS entries as far as I can see!) Now look to the left of the table on the same line as 'Top 40' to get the corresponding RDS Program type / code (EU). (For 'Top40' this would be 'Varied' i.e. PTY Code 9) Finally, enter 'Varied' into the stereotool PTY drop down and see what you get on your receiver. If it is RBDS based, you may very well receive 'Top 40'.

PI code is an identifier that the receiver uses to know that several frequencies are broadcasting the same program. So it can automatically switch between them. The first 2 (hexadecimal!) digits of the PI code are a country code, the last 2 digits must be *unique* in your reception area.

For the RDBS/RDS difference, the Wikipedia list should indeed work.
