I must tell you that you are not right . If you want to have AGC you MUST have some pre amplifier . The only option is to amplify before regulate.. I must tell you that i saw in many transmitters ( inside ) a manual POSTamp .. builded in few fixed steps ( 0 db , -3 db, -6 db , -9 db ) So i don`t know how professional devices you are looking at , but...Pre and Post amps are just right putted on the ST.But Drive is amplifing all signal for me ( that is what i see for now) but i think that this Drive must amplify the signal only on the input of the MB and not allow this amplified signal to reach the Advanced clipper . Look when you set the drive to the max or a higher value.... the Adv clipper is goin crazy ?!?! This must not happen . Adv Clipper is far after the MB in the scheme for FM processing or normal processing. The idea of the MB must be to regulate the amplitude-frequency characteristic as necessary. That is why we have thres option in the MB. We can set it above 0db like you see . So the Drive and Output must operate just like the Preamp for AGC and postamp for the whole output... BUT ONLY FOR THE MB .
I agree on the amplification it's a must have, however it is called "AGC DRIVE" (in all big processors) and not "PRE AMP"
In other words, the name could be changed in the future (depending on Hans) in order to confirm to the big marked.
I am not saying it's gonna be changed but i know Hans has a goal, and i think if he wants to compete, parameters should have the same name.
I agree on the drive issue, the MB DRIVE should only effect the amount of gain reduction in the multiband structure and not the MB output level (i think) so it's worth to try to link the "DRIVE" parameter to the "OUTPUT" level, so when more drive is applied it automaticaly reduces output level.

@parelduikerfm
I will have a 6 bands Big O preset available soon, it's not finished but i'm getting there.
Will have it available via this forum, or as a NEW MULTIBAND user preset when it's finished.

Jeroen.

True, but I need to figure out how to do this. Say you increase the Drive by 6 dB. Then what happens to the output? For start, it's different per band if the ratio settings differ. So that means that I should probably adjust the band mix, not the total output. Which also means (is that good or bad?) that changing the drive changes output levels per individual band instead of of all the bands combined.

With a ratio of 2:1 and a drive increase of 6 dB I should probably reduce the band mix by 3 dB. But that does mean that for sounds that don't yet hit the compressor the output level is changed. Which will give the really strange behavior that if none of the bands is being compressed, and you change Drive, the output can change dramatically. The only way I see to solve this is to use the same ratio and feedback value for all the bands.

So... If anyone has an idea for a solution for this, I'm really interested :) - I agree that it's currently a bit difficult to set things up. It would be nice to just be able to say to a band or the whole MB: Work harder.

I think it's fine with just drive and output level. With some meters before and after MB it will help to see what's going on. You can always make something with "more" and "less" that adjusts multiple multiband settings at once later for people that want fast adjustment. (basic / advanced).

Yes, 2 more sliders for Attack/Release to move all bands at adjusted speeds. Also 3rd slider for overall speeds, usable for main screen :)

No, no , no .. sliders and sliders.... not usable . Sliders are good for now. But we have threshold option for every band.So we drive every band with the value, right? say we drive every band with 20 db , threshold value is set let`s say to -10db . Then every band will reach the RMS value of -10db . if we want to increase the compression we will set this threshold to -6db for example ... if we want to decrease the compression we set it to -15db. But the drive is always the same value for all the bands. This is the right thing . Output level slider is just for a kind of POST amp only, and only for the MB section. That is why it`s right valued to 0 db. And at last i say that levels are only affected by the Drive and Threshold levels , that`s it .And also you guys must think about another thing. With small speeds we must have enough hold time , it`s not enough now. Say att=4ms rel=50ms or 100ms .. hold time of 1000 is not enough. If you set Gate to the lowest -99db .. you will find this . If user don`t want to use gating, he must have a larger hold time than now.

VERSION IS BROKEN AND CRASHES

- New MB displayed in bottom section (not yet in smaller view)
- MB steepness configurable PER BAND and even PER SIDE, and visible
- AGC Compressor added
- New Big O V2 preset added

The debug version worked fine but the release version crashes! I'm trying to find out why now...

Edit: O wow. One of these great SSE2 optimization things that go wrong 50% of the time... It worked in the last build, but not in this one.
