I still wasn't too happy about the sound of version 4.01/4.02 at very high Loudness settings (> 3.0)...
(Maybe a stupid ?) interposed question

@ Hans

So, does it mean that the differences between 3,55 and 4.xy only have a negative impact for strong compression (loudness) settings (presets) and more or less none for example for very soft settings like "Volume Compression - Normal Soft Compression" ?

I am using actually a modification of "Volume Compression - Normal Soft Compression" preset with newest Beta 4.02:
Two differences:
Equalizer Before Limiter active:
1.00 1.12 1.12 1.00 1.00 1.00 1.00 1.24 1.56 1.00
and
Noise Gate active at 2.90 %
(to have a subjective better denoising for some oldies than with the normal preset and Noise Gate at 0.80 % - in my ears)

So is your problem (with stronger settings) not my problem ?

Bojcha, I've tried the song that you submitted, and at FM Loud Europe preset the distortion is much worse in 3.55 than in the latest beta... Am I missing something?
Also, I hear far more "bass-pushed-down-by-loud-highs" effects, which are very annoying (not in this track, but in others). I even think that a bit of distortion is better than that.

But I have made a few minor changes that make 4.02 behave more like 3.55 - will probably upload a new beta later today. The distortion is slightly reduced (bass level too unfortunately).

Michi95: What kind of problem are you talking about? (And yes, the difference is only there if you're using Loudness, and - as far as I've seen - 4.02 has some advantages and some disadvantages compared to 3.55. But in the latest beta most of those disadvantages are gone.)

The fact that 1 dB more bass doesn't cause a huge amount of extra distortion indicates that the 4.03 processing is superior to that of 3.55.
Where can i find this 4.03 or it's latest beta ?

@ Hans

You misunderstood my last sentence.
There is no problem (I cannot hear any).
It was only a question if there might be a problem for me and my settings.
Sorry, Hans that I have waisted your time with this (stupid) question.

I only wanted to know if I have to wait for the next (enhanced) beta version.
No (not with my soft processing - now I have understood). :!:

So everything is fine here for me with version 4.02 (or last beta).

Thanks !

Not yet available... I'm doing more tests right now and now I do hear almost the same level of distortion in the 4.03 beta as in 3.55. The bass level is 0.4 dB higher if I send the same input into the Loudness filter... I'm now lowering the bass level to reach the same sound as in version 3.55.

Looks like I'll need to redesign my distortion filter (right now I can achieve a very clear sound, but the bass level drops far too much).

i noticed one more thing .. if i not use loudness at all and set final limiter to 1.50 .. i get ofcourse lower output but not distortion at all ..i did quick test .. but i think that lows are in that case lower too. .. and if i set loudness in that case only to ~1.30x .. distortion starts. (S Sounds)

btw. I am subscribed to some threads on forums here .. but last days i don't get notifications on my mail.?

I haven't tested this version thoroughly, and I might still be able to tweak things a bit for better results, but this version has the same very low bass level as version 3.55, with less distortion:

Winamp DSP plugin: http://www.stereotool.com/download/dsp_ ... r_BETA.exe
Stand alone version: http://www.stereotool.com/download/ster ... r_BETA.exe
Command line: http://www.stereotool.com/download/ster ... d_BETA.exe
VST version: http://www.stereotool.com/download/vst_ ... l_BETA.dll

Tested with Loudness set to 3.00, all other options turned off (to rule out any effects of changes elsewhere in the processing, such as the RMS volume in the pre limiter); clean/punch slider at its default position (actually I think I could just as well remove that slider again - setting it higher doesn't seem to cause any ill effects but the bass is punchier and sounds better. So far I haven't found anything that sounds better with the slider set to clean...)

Bojcha: I didn't know that something was wrong with the emails, will check it later...

i guess that this distortion on some "S" sounds must stay .. it only heppens on maybe 5% songs.
