But I must be objective and say that professional equipment has even more ( i know middle class Sony that have 20 bands equalizer ) . Also in the studio you all know that bands are more than 30-35 ?!?
Your are talking about
equalizers
Static processing !
But our controversy here is about multiband compression/expansion - you can call it dynamic (full parametric !) equalizer.
So the professional music production multiband compressors/expanders have 3 or 4-bands (or maximal 5-bands like Watabe's CP5).
Except some rare dynamic equalizer plugins with more bands (
but less parametric options than traditional compressors).
So what michi if it`s static ..
This Multiband is also named Automatic equalizer ( where is needed amplify , where needed lower the level ). It`s a kind of auto equalizer with end parameters . Don`t forget it ! Also have bands which are leveled and have speeds ( imagine this with 0.0000 speeds ? Then what ? It`s a equalizer but not auto movable .
With equalizer that you call it static you also can do a compression but static compression for each song if you like .. so........ no difference . Effect is the same on the both ( amplifying and lowering ). The only difference is in the method ( one is manual , the other is automatic with end level parameters) That`s it .
If Hans put a sliders like equalizer instead of level indicators you will see an auto leveling equalizer for each song ( instead of you to set it manual for each song ) . And the rule : more bands , more flexibility !
