Stereo Tool

I am using a laptop with Winamp/Stereotool (thanks Hans...dunno how I can listen to music without Stereotool any more) to run an input into a mono mixer to run a mono PA.
Now this might sound a bit stupid, and that's because I am. My laptop of course has a stereo output jack. Normally I would take that output and put it into two channels on the mixer using 1/4-inch adaptors for the rca end of the cable (I don't use tape ins coz there's no EQ) but if I put the sound into mono, will that mean I can take either of the output RCAs and just use one channel on my mixer and still get the "full sound" please?
It has to, doesn't it, surely?

Try this:
- Go to Stereo -> Stereo Image
- Enable it
- Set both Stereo Phase and Stereo Width multipliers to 0.00

Now you get the same audio on left and right. And not only that: Sounds that normally would be lost when you convert to mono (phase cancellation) are still there!

Thanks for this. In 7.0 "Image phase amplifier" and "Image Width amplifier" are both shown as "deprecated" which I understood to mean "worked in the last version, but not now."
Deprecated or not, I was able to set them both to 0%...so is that ok? At the moment I am only listening through the laptop speakers, and I wouldn't necessarily expect to hear any major changes.

I leave the "Phase amp max separation strength" at 100% and the "Mono or stereo only" at +0?

Deprecated means that it's advised not to use it anymore. In this case however parts of the filter are deprecated while others work fine; I need to find a better way to clarify this I suppose.

For example, setting both these sliders to 0 sounds great, both at 1 does nothing, and ANY other setting causes artifacts.

Yes, leave the other settings at their default positions!

I'm a tech writer for Cisco, and we use the term "deprecated" to mean "obsolete" and I keep arguing to just use the word "obsolete" when something is obsolete. I'm still arguing.

I suppose if you only have the space to fit your explanation into the gui, as you have done, perhaps you could use "Partly Deprecated." If it affects anyone, like it did me, I suppose that is why we have the forum. But then you might get tired of answering the same question; I don't know how many people want to convert stereo to mono. I know it will save me a channel on my mixer.
Perhaps you could add a line or two to your bullet point on the home page for Stereo to Mono Conversion? Without your help, I would not have known intuitively how to do this properly. But then, I didn't know intuitively how to wipe my bum, so I don't know what that says about me.
