For my eyes it is very annoying.
I can't remember such a massive flickering in any other PC application.
It really reminds me of my old BASIC days.

I would prefer the old standard Windows dialogue window, if it cannot be fixed.
The preset dialogue is the only element with the new graphics.
All other elements (MB, Noise, etc.) open in traditional Windows dialogue windows.
So why not the preset dialogue ?
(Until this new independant graphics works with all other elements)

i agree .. it's better standard windows menu .. but list of presets is too long now .. so separate window will be too big, i guess.
Did you try other catalysts?

No.
Because Hans agreed about this "constantly redrawing" with the other Stereo Tool Beta versions.

But I think the solution for this problem might be quite simple, because I have noticed an interesting correlation.

I hope this information will help to eliminate the flickering:

I wrote that it doesn't matter if I move the mouse or not or if the mouse pointer
is inside or outside the preset dialogue screen area.

This is true if the "screen updates" slider is at "fast".

There is obvious a correlation between the flickering intensity and this slider.
When I set this slider to "slow" the flickering intensity is very low.
Not that annoying but still noticeable when I move the mouse inside the preset dialogue.
When I move the mouse pointer outside the preset dialogue screen area
(the "screen updates" slider at "slow") the flickering doesn't appear anymore (the dialogue is stable).

It is a little bit curious, because if you go to the preset dialogue all graphic animation of the processed audio is bypassed (the oscilloscope and the meters are frozen).

So maybe it is only necessary to enhance the bypass mechanism.
It seems as if the bypassed graphic animation of the meters and the oscilloscope is fighting with the preset dialogue who has the right to draw to the screen. :?

I really hope that I've grabbed the wrong download.
Hans, please tell me that dsp_stereo_tool_installer_BETA2.exe
704 KB (721.197 bytes)
is not the correct version (without redrawing) !?!
I really don't know what I did yesterday, but that's definitely not the correct version...

I'm usually developing in a VMware-image, but I just tried an older Stereo Tool version on my real PC and I noticed some very slight flickering. In the latest version (building now) it's gone. In the version that you tested, it's still there!

Version 4.0 is ready!

It's past 2 AM already, so I'm not going to update the site today anymore, but you can use any of the links to get the version that I'm planning to release tomorrow evening. (BETA and BETA2 are now identical, you can download either).

Last minute changes:
- Further improved handling of loud "S" sounds. (low freqs are now about 0.6 dB louder when very loud highs are present. No change when no very loud S's are present)
- Fixed flickering problem
- Updated a few presets: FM Loud/Extreme contain a bit more high frequencies. Web radio presets have been set a bit louder (Loudness causes far less artifacts so I could increase the level a bit).

Wow! Its finally 4.0 release. I'd say hands down this is by far the best sound proccessing software out there. No competition at all. The sound quality you have created with this 4.0 release is out standing! Great job Hans!

Does that mean I should update your preset?
