uploading .....
ok..
- Starting ST (standalone) winamp plays on VAC1
- Reset ST (to be sure)
- Load preset FM Europe Stereo
- turn on fm emphasize, 50us, rds and stereo
- set input VAC1 and FM output VAC2
- mpxtool input VAC2. (output any)

- restart ST

track
The mids and highs are indeed clearly louder, the deep bass is the same before and after... No difference in FM pilot.

I have found some old code that *should* have been removed a long time ago and could cause this type of behavior, but that code should not have been reachable anymore. I have removed it now anyway, and I've also fixed a few other small issues with the startup behavior. Update is available now, but I don't really expect that the problem will be solved now.

Bojcha, sorry for keeping asking questions but I really want to solve this one :-)
So, if the update doesn't solve the problem I have two more questions:
1. Could you send me your .ini file (in C:\documents and settings\your user name\dsp_stereo_tool.ini (Winamp) or stereo_tool.ini (stand alone)? There might be something in there from an older Stereo Tool version that's causing things like this (although I don't think so - but there must be SOME reason why this does happen on your pc and not on mine).
2. It seems like some settings are changing when you restart Stereo Tool. Since you said that it also happens when you load a preset from a file, could you try the following?
a. Open Stereo Tool
b. Select a preset
c. Save it to a file
d. Open ALL the different Stereo Tool windows.
e. Switch between the real preset and the file, and check if any of the sliders or settings changes.
If the resolution of your monitor isn't big enough, you can also open a few of the windows at a time.

Especially watch the Pre Limiter window closely, if one of the sliders in the 2nd column changes that could have exactly this type of effect.

Thanks!

huh...
i alredy remove ini files and instal fresh last beta. no need for that.

i do a better approach. One by one proces off to see when it will be same after restart.
and i found it at first .. it's pre limiter. but sliders in pre-limiter not moving. they stay as is.
and no need for restart just lowlatency on and off.
Like the restart (or lowlat on and off) wake up pre-limiter.

and this i don't know... what is good level after load preset or after load preset and restart.

test2

edit: i try new beta.. same thing occure

I think I've found it now! There were 2 different code paths possible. In one the pre limiter was functioning as a compressor, in the other as a limiter (as it was intended) - the maximum (RMS based) level is constant when used as a limiter, but not when used as a compressor.

I still cannot reproduce it here so I'm not really sure... But it would be a perfect explanation of what's happening. I'm building a new version now, should be ready in about an hour.

Update is available. Pre limiter should now always function as a limiter. Bojcha, can you check if this solves the problem? Thanks...

Stand alone version: http://www.stereotool.com/download/ster ... _BETA2.exe

That's because I did something wrong - it should take the higher level instead :-)

Will fix that later.

You can notice that now multiband meters are shown little les.
but meybe it's ok now?!
Because i think loudnes will give better quality.

You can also achieve that by setting the pre-limiter volume sliders a bit lower.

This way, loud songs remain louder and soft songs remain softer. For the multiband compressor/limiter, using compression instead of limiting is fine because it should only respond to short bursts of sound. The pre-limiter must make the volume constant, and hence work towards a constant maximum level, regardless of the input level.

By the way, I have noticed that a few versions ago the bass was really a lot better than in the last few versions (even with the deep bass slider all the way to the right). I'll upload one final BETA/BETA2 comparison later today with much better bass sounds - which might introduce a bit of distortion again. If people don't agree on which version is better, I'll make it switchable and remove the clean highs/deep bass slider). I know I like the "more bass" version a lot more, so it's definitely going to be in the final release - the question is whether the current version should also still be selectable. Beta's will be here about an hour from now.

Yeah but this is really a change in the processing method. So there's no way to slide between the two versions.

Here's the version with better bass:
Winamp DSP plugin: http://www.stereotool.com/download/dsp_ ... _BETA2.exe
Stand alone version: http://www.stereotool.com/download/ster ... _BETA2.exe
Command line: UNAVAILABLE
VST version: http://www.stereotool.com/download/vst_ ... _BETA2.dll

Basically this is the version from a few days ago that had a lot of distortion, but with the new distortion filters added to it. The deep bass slider is still present but its' effect is far less than before.

I'll upload the original version asap (I have to recompile it because the version that I uploaded before was using compression instead of limiting for the pre limiter - so that wouldn't be an honest comparison).
