In that case I'll go with the new version, and I'll add a 2nd filter to get rid of the peaks.

For BASS sounds, RMS-type filters have to respond very slowly. Highs can respond much faster. Currently I'm processing both identically - slow. I'm going to look into it more closely, and handle lows and highs differently.

Edit: No - even better: I'm going to combine both methods!

Bojcha: New RMS Beta (without the "2") is online now.

Still left channel only.

Changes:
- Now also using the old method
- RMS level is now measured in 3 ways: Using a long, medium and short interval. The minimum value of these 3 is used. Reason: Short interval does not offer very good volume control. Medium interval causes too big volume drops for loud "S" sounds. Large interval responds slowly to loud peaks, which sounds "unnatural".

The difference in volume between track 1 and 2 has gone up a bit, it's about 0.35 dB now (previous version below 0.1, original version around 1.5).

I agree with you that this should improve the quality: Already compressed songs will be compressed less by the following steps than not yet compressed songs. Which should help a lot.

EDIT: I've just managed to get the same quality but with 0.26 dB difference instead of 0.35 dB. Will upload it in about 30 minutes...

EDIT: Done. Difference is now 0.26 dB - left channel only.

hi Hans,
now bit better still some peeks but it's less of them ..
Somtimes in rare cases prelimiter (left channel) knows to work like some bad compressor, from 50 songs i found one to be like that and that song is some strange quality.

Anyway .. good job.

edit:
heh .. found another bug with final-limiter VUmeter on main window. Left channel is left but right is and left and right.
in loudness windows that same VUmeter works normal.

Abdulok: I've heard a few songs where the high frequencies don't sound too good (sound seems to be less clear, and less full). Maybe playing with the "Extra highs" slider of the Loudness filter can improve the sound quality - but it could also degrade (I'm not sure here, will try this later).
Hi Hans,
Please note that the high frequency sound which we were talking about is only a trace and can be considered as negligible, I have been listening to some FM Stations were they try to boost the compression, their sound tends to be harsh or metallic, "I may describe the singer as he is shouting but not singing" hahahah!!!!. I think this is the nature of sound when its heavily compressed. The good thing here is Stereo Tool has the facility which allows user to adjust the compression and the sound equalization for each of the ten Channels to suit the individual taste, where as most of other sound processors do not have this facility.
Kind Regards,

Abdul

Bojcha, can you tell me which song sounds bad?

I have another update ready - now both channels are processed using the new method, and I've added an extra filter that removes the remaining really loud peaks. That sometimes has some annoying volume effects - but they are removed by the later processing steps, so I suppose it shouldn't be too problematic. I'll upload it in a moment.

it's not worth mention .. because it's very old, ripped from tape and very bad compressed in mp3. don't bother.

let's see both channels :)
