Update:
- Stand alone version should work fine now, without closing when a single window is closed.
- Some buttons added to a new panel. The remaining buttons on the right will be moved there also. (And yes, Bypass all too)

Nice, it's getting better and better!

Is the screen update slider not working?

Hi Martijn,

The things on the right don't work yet (Quality setting also doesn't do anything) - I'll move them into the new interface and make them work again. They're just there so I don't forget them...

Hans,

I'll agree that task manager is not the "very best" way - and sometimes "does lie" - but, not in
this case. I tested against several others - and it was actually a bit higher.

But, lets set that aside for now. The fact is, the final limiter is taxing systems that are 1.6ghz
and below. And on those sytems .. they can't make use of "loudness" .. so they use ST without it.
But, if the final limter is just as taxing as loudness ... well, i hope you see my point.

By the way, I did a test on the "just the final limiter". Everything off, except final limiter.
I set it to 1.00 and set input gain to 10.00. The results are not good. What kind of limiter is this?

Hi Tekie,

The final limiter doesn't handle continuous loud sounds well - in fact, you need to set it such that the dark part of the bar that's displayed remains in the green area.

The final limiter was designed to introduce as little change in the sound as possible, but as a consequency, it can only handle peaks up to about 2-3 times the maximum volume.

If you compare the current final limiter to the one in Stereo Tool 3.40 or below, you'll notice that in 3.40 and below the volume is a lot lower when you turn it on, while in 3.50+ the volume remains nearly identical. Which means that the final limiter has almost no effect on the sound, while it keeps the output within range.

I could add the old final limiter for sounds more than twice the input volume in front of the current one to fix the sound - and I think it will also improve the sound quality for short peaks.

Edit: For performance, you can also use "HARD LIMIT" *instead of* the final limiter. Hard limit is similar to that of older versions, and doesn't sound too bad - even with the input volume set to 10. (Note: NOT when FM Transmitter filters are turned on).

In the new interface I have far more room for extra settings, so I'll make it configurable which final limiter is used.

Update: Screen update slider, quality and low latency settings are working now.

Note: I think I've made these new buttons a bit too small - I wanted to make sure that there would be some space left for the bypass, configure sound cards and TA (for RDS) buttons. But looking at this screenshot I think it looks a bit too crowded. I'll make it more "spacial" tomorrow.
