Advanced Bass Distortion Protection has to be ON?

When i turn it off and use Smoothe mid frequencies it sounds very strange, metalic sound.

I still can't figure out why same preset sounds more cleaner to you and here sounds distorted and with more puch.

Higher values means bigger differences between the two channels. 75% is pretty high - I would pick a much lower value (that's why the default value is lower).
Yeah true! I was really caught in a dilemma. With my Sony XD300 it sounded like more channel separation, better it sounds.
Changed to my Sennheiser HD280 and I actually slided it all the way back to 0%!

I am still caught in a fix. Let's see...

Ah woops - that's a bug: Some values are calculated and used during clipping at each step, but if it's turned off these values are no longer updated. But yes, it should be turned on anyway for the best sound quality.

Hans, your recording is L/R... what i was recorded and testing is FM output! But again .. difference is big.

@Hans, Bojcha
I tried the same preset. When i use Hans' method i get the same file as Hans which i can play with MPX tool.

But when i enable direct soundcard access and set stereo encoder on, everythings sounds horrible when listening to it with MPX tool.
So there must be something wrong in stereo tool.

Found it !
Standalone,
On normal output all is good! By just enablig "FM Transmitter Output", no need to be FM ON, distortion starts on normal output.

Again, what about "Always clip bass bellow" slider? Or, How to set Bass to go no more then XX% (and to be clipped) ?
There is still distortion on highs caused by bass even on lower loudness settings.
Also, when protection in ON but sensitivity 0, it still kills punch alot.

Ok, I'll check what goes wrong there. ==> DONE, cause found: Turns out that I was telling the clipper that the sample rate was 176400 or 192000, while in fact it receives the downsampled audio at 44100/48000. Solved now. Same problem was present in declipper (veil speed) and Natural Dynamics (band separation frequencies).

*Always* clipping the bass below a certain threshold: I'll add that asap. ==> DONE, will be in next beta.
Sensitivity = 0 equals setting the bass clipping level to 1.0, which doesn't leave much room for other sound and hence reduces punch. So don't do that....
Distortion on highs even at lower loudness settings -> Can you give me an example of where that happens? It's probably a matter of tweaking some internal settings, but so far everything I've checked sounds good to me. At what bass clipping level does this happen? Some very mild clipping might still occur for bass clipping levels above 0.90. Note: If FM output was enabled, the output may have sounded really bad.

I'm working on a new BETA which should have _almost_ the same lack of vibrations, but with almost no drop in mid levels. (This will be configurable).

Unfortunately my headphone cable broke, which means that I cannot hear all the details in comparisons at the moment. I'll buy a new one next week.

Edit: Building now.

Edit #2: It might be a good idea to increase the peak sensitivity (new slider) automatically when I detect voice vibrations (that detection filter is currently disabled, but of course I could enable it again). But without good headphones I don't know if that is needed or that the slider should remain relatively high the whole time anyway. The default value is set very low (0.1% / Hz), that seems to be sufficient to remove most of the distortion in the 'mina04voice' track - which is the only track I've tested before my headphone cable broke.

BETA098:
- Fixed FM output bug
- Never raise bass level above.... works again
- New slider: Peak detection steepness. At 5% output is nearly identical to that of BETA097, at 0% it's close to BETA096 (no voice vibration protection, louder mids). 0.10% is the default level; this removes _most_ of the vibrations and only reduces the mids by about 0.1 dB. (0.7 dB at 5%). Not tested thoroughly because my headphone is broken, :-(
