over air and streaming use lots of cpu hard punch soft hit on the limiters and clippers used to play a mix of 320 mpo3 and 96k wma very hard to seup for both to sound good as 96k has issues on highs garbge in garbge out stereo tool lets me do it. would add the file but sts extension is not allowed? |

Oops! Ehm, then just copy the contents of the STS file and paste it as a post (it's all readable text). I'll look into the "sts not allowed" problem tomorrow (it's 5:25 AM here now, I should go to bed...) By the way, I don't know if your transmitter includes FM pre-emphasis, stereo and RDS encoding, but if it doesn't, keep an eye out for the next release (3.10, beta will probably be ready in a few days) which allows sending one pre-emphasized 192 kHz stream with stereo and RDS data directly to the sound card, and another (not pre-emphasized, 44.1 kHz) back to SAM which will then be encoded. (You can even use a 3rd output with a very low latency (lower quality) if you're doing live shows - if you have 2 sound cards). |

ok here is the current settings where is the singleband comp? do not see it on the gui. mouse is very poor so had to tweak exact numbers. will post a newer one later as itweak this one. mike [Common] Pre amplifier=5 Post amplifier=0.860000014 Extra loudness=1 Hard limit output=1 Downsample very high input sample rates to near 44.1 kHz=0 Mode=Advanced [Singleband Compressor] Enabled=0 Difference=0 Maximum volume=1.5 Maximum value=24576 Attack speed=0.00009 Decay speed=0.100000001 Above Top Limiter=0 [Pre Compressor] Enabled=1 Difference=0 Delay enabled=1 Maximum volume - Band 1=25420 Maximum volume - Band 2=12710 Attack speed - Band 1=0.000021239 Attack speed - Band 2=0.000026008 Decay speed - Band 1=0.000382996 Decay speed - Band 2=0.000958171 [Multiband Compressor] Enabled=1 Difference=0 Delay enabled=1 Very high quality enabled=1 Maximum volume - Band -1=5250 Maximum volume - Band 0=7460 Maximum volume - Band 1=7120 Maximum volume - Band 2=6940 Maximum volume - Band 3=6850 Maximum volume - Band 4=6610 Maximum volume - Band 5=6440 Maximum volume - Band 6=5080 Maximum volume - Band 7=3730 Maximum volume - Band 8=1020 Attack speeds linked=0 Attack speed - Band -1=0.000090152 Attack speed - Band 0=0.000421191 Attack speed - Band 1=0.000264443 Attack speed - Band 2=0.000090152 Attack speed - Band 3=0.000096324 Attack speed - Band 4=0.000096324 Attack speed - Band 5=0.000072158 Attack speed - Band 6=0.000072158 Attack speed - Band 7=0.000072158 Attack speed - Band 8=0.000096324 Decay speeds linked=0 Decay speed - Band -1=0.00160793 Decay speed - Band 0=0.005829701 Decay speed - Band 1=0.001828427 Decay speed - Band 2=0.0010933 Decay speed - Band 3=0.0010933 Decay speed - Band 4=0.0010933 Decay speed - Band 5=0.0010933 Decay speed - Band 6=0.0010933 Decay speed - Band 7=0.002081846 Decay speed - Band 8=0.002081846 Above Top Limiter=0.699999988 Clipping enabled=1 Postprocessing enabled=1 Relative clip position - Band -1=1.500000238 Relative clip position - Band 0=1.56410265 Relative clip position - Band 1=1.56410265 Relative clip position - Band 2=1.500000238 Relative clip position - Band 3=1.500000238 Relative clip position - Band 4=1.500000238 Relative clip position - Band 5=1.56410265 Relative clip position - Band 6=1.56410265 Relative clip position - Band 7=1.56410265 Relative clip position - Band 8=1.56410265 Final limiter value=0.322599977 Final limiter decay speed=0.002952847 Final limiter clipping=1.777777672 Equalizer enabled=1 Equalize before multiband-compression=0 Equalizer position - Band -1=1 Equalizer position - Band 0=1.409638405 Equalizer position - Band 1=1.409638405 Equalizer position - Band 2=1 Equalizer position - Band 3=1 Equalizer position - Band 4=1.247190952 Equalizer position - Band 5=1.409638405 Equalizer position - Band 6=1.127659559 Equalizer position - Band 7=1 Equalizer position - Band 8=1 [Stereo] Enabled=1 Delay enabled=0 Difference=0 Center bass=0 AZIMUTH limit=4.880000114 AZIMUTH change speed=0.100000001 Image phase amplifier=1.110000014 Image phase amplifier maximum angle=180 Image phase amplifier maximum separation strength=100 Image width amplifier=1.110000014 Extra phase shift=0 Mono or stereo only=0.360000014 [Channel Delay] Enabled=0 Left Delay=0 [Output Filter] Enabled=1 Lowpass filter=15000 [Final Pre-Limiter] Enabled=1 Difference=0 Pre-amp=0.914943933 Response time=0.400000006 [Final Limiter] Enabled=1 Difference=0 Pre-amp=0.914943933 Response time=0.050000001 [FM Transmitter] Enabled=0 Pre-emphasize=0 Pre-emphasis time=50 Output is pre-emphasized=0 Stereo encoder enabled=0 RDS encoder enabled=0 RDS PS text=2s:STEREO/2s:TOOL/<1=1.5s,2..-2=2t,-1=1.5s:WWW.STEREOTOOL.COM |

Sounds good! And very different from all the presets that I created. About the singleband processor: I've removed it in version 3.0, so it's obsolete now. Hans |

Here is current on air preset it is used with a sam4 agc preset this is discussed in another topic post viewtopic.php?f=8&t=4&st=0&sk=t&sd=a&start=20 this is used by a low power fm station to sound like the big guys with lots of different song bitrates and styles. if doing a voice only or all songs high bitrate or lossless a different preset would be even better. khel973 ===================== ok the expander was set to hard and killing the brillance so here is a lighter preset for the agc also drop the preamp slider more to 2.58. I know but i am sick of the cracking artifacts i hear in some songs of its higher. I have decides MP3 just suck as source. I am going to test some losses wav rips of the worst offending songs. with 500gig hard drives under $150 and 4 core chips to rip with, it maybe time to rethink commpressing the music libary to save space. i am tired of compramising 80% of the songs for the 20% that are mastered for sh%#. as a lowpower FM, people Compare you to the big guys. if they are in my covarge area i want to sound as good as clear channel. having all files losses will elim the agc, let me pump the preamp and let me sound awesume. only issue is the voice talk programs i download that are mp3. maybe a new feature would be timmer to load a saved preset at a set time. that would let us load a voice preset and unload it at the start and end of a voice program. how bout it? what really would be nice is to have the ability to set a preset for each song(file). i knowthis could be done as sam is run off a mysql database and another field for each song that has the preset name is easy. just need sam to read it on song change and tell the agc AND any dsp's to switch. i am going to look at sam. maybe i can figure out a programming way to do this. ======================= agc for sam4 =================== <CONFIG Curious about the SAM AGC settings. Do you set the AGC for each of the decks or just process the final output in SAM? |

Welcome voice23, I don't know if khel973 is still around here, so I'll have a quick shot at this... If you use 2 instances of Stereo Tool, one for each deck, you'll get a number of problems: 1. When a new song starts and the old one isn't finished yet, you might get short very loud parts. 2. Stereo Tool causes a delay, if a deck stops processing data you'll get the last bit of a song at the start of the next song. Or if it continues processing, you'll get twice the CPU load. 3. If you have multiple instances, on startup they will all load the same settings (which might be ok in this case). Using just one instance at the end of the mix solves these problems. So - unless khel comes in and says otherwise - just use one at the end. |

Thank you and that makes sense. I am having several issues. Stereo tool is wonderful. I like what it does to my stream sound. The problem is that the music is not ripped or recorded consistently. Even using the same settings when ripping, the original is not always the same. Consequently there is a difference in the song that the listener hears if everything is left the same. A lot of the new recordings suck. They are overly compressed and clip. Just because it shows as recorded at 100% does not mean that sounds like 100%. It has come to where I can not even play some tracks because there is nothing I can do to make it sound good in SAM and in Stereo Tool. I just don;t know what to do. I do not understand all of the settings in the AGC to do any justice. I just try a few changes and record what I did. If I don't like it - I change it back. ![]() The old music sounds beautiful. It just seems like the new stuff is really crap. They want to see how LOUD a track can be mastered before the listener does not buy it! There is no audiophile standards. Anyway, thanks for your response. I appreciate any suggestions. I have tried the settings you have in this forum. But they just don't sound good to me. I would give anything to spend some time with a listener on the phone and say "How does that sound". I only have access to listening to my stream on the same bandwidth that it is being sent on. Plus I am biased on the sound quality - from my perspective. |

You're right about new tracks - often they already sound distorted on the CD. VERY important: If you rip your tracks to MP3 (or another lossy compressed) format, the wave form changes, and - if it was already using 100% - you'll get more distortion. To avoid that, compress the MP3s at a lower volume, or even better: Use lossless compression (such as Flac). (Basically, when using MP3 compression, try to keep the input volume below 80-90%, depending on the bit rate). This is also the case for your output signal: If Stereo Tool produces signals up to 100%, anyone listening to the stream will hear distortion, even if there is no distortion in the MP3 compressor input signal... For a description on what the different sliders do, see http://help.stereotool.com/multiband_compressor.shtml . By the way, have you tried how the same tracks sound when using Winamp instead of SAM? I've heard complaints about distortion from several people where eventually it turned out that the SAM compressor was also turned on - and that one causes LOTS of distortion, especially on loud inputs. See http://help.stereotool.com/stereo_tool_and_sam3.shtml for more info. (But just try Winamp as a quick check to see if that's the problem). |
