| Post subject: | compressor math (question for audio engineers) |
Assume a compressor having a step response of s(n) = 1 - a^n. Attack time is maybe set up to fullfill s(att*fs) = 1 - 1/e. (ST uses 0.86 instead, but that doesn't matter here.) But how does that work with release time? E.g. using a 10dB definition (like ST does). Would that mean trying to fullfill s(rel*fs) = 1 - 10^(-10/20) or equivalently a^(rel*fs) = 10^(-10/20)? |
