Post subject:  Need help to reproduce 90' radio analog with Optimod 8100

Hi I'm Dylan and I would love to reproduce sound of an amazing french radio station in 90' called Maxximum.
Maxximum used Texar Audio Prisms + Optimod 8100 with XT2 + Stereomaxx + BBE 822...

I already know most of you will hate this sound but I really dream to try to reproduce it but I have now some difficulty and maybe you'll can help me !

Here is old records of Maxximum:
Maxximum 1991 (Lisa Stansfield)
https://www.dropbox.com/s/owzba64ncdxl5 ... 9.wav?dl=0
Maxximum 1991 (Spectrum)
https://www.dropbox.com/s/0l8e1tnyhw9qy ... 9.wav?dl=0
Maxximum 1991 (Deee-Lite)
https://www.dropbox.com/s/3da82v3c54f1d ... 9.wav?dl=0

Here is original WAV files without any processing:
Maxximum 1991 (Lisa Stansfield)
https://www.dropbox.com/s/wtylpfxiz0ldk ... 9.wav?dl=0
Maxximum 1991 (Spectrum)
https://www.dropbox.com/s/6w9pzkxqpoiy4 ... l.wav?dl=0
Maxximum 1991 (Deee-Lite)
uploading...

And here is my preset (I know I'm far from the Maxximum sound and the biggest difficulty for me is to have these bass)
Dylan (Lisa Stansfield)
https://www.dropbox.com/s/oyzcw849e0az7 ... 9.wav?dl=0
Dylan (Spectrum)
https://www.dropbox.com/s/fdrft8qvbafy5 ... 9.wav?dl=0
Maxximum 1991 (Deee-Lite)
uploading...

Now you get my preset (7.51) and I will very appriciate if you can help me.

Best regards,

Dylan.

Tried "Maxximum 1991 (Deee-Lite)"
I must say that it's in top5 in my worst audio i ever heard list. Also recording is done with huge amount of tilt.

Well it's better but...
Too much bass and they are so tight that goes into "like-rumble" sound, highs are tight too almost no dynamics at all. I guess goal was "orban highs" but they are worse here. There is no 'sparke' at all.

Tested the preset you posted.

- 9 bands
- Extremely overdone stereo image
- Extremely muddy highs
- Where did the bass go? There's some rumble that resembles mid-bass only.

Should I continue? Simply - it's bad - very, very bad. Under no circumstance, never go for that sound. Never, ever!

Oh, just listened to new sample - there's bass, and different timbre in general than your uploaded preset - even too much bass. Still muddy highs. And this stereo image will be fatiguing in a long shot.

Why do you want to go for the 8100/Stereomaxx balls to the wall sound anyway? It's not that good even in the original files. My guess is the 8100 was never design to work with such extreme settings.

Hi Dylan,

You might like the phase tornado plug-in (and the impact/clunck) Leif created. It might give you that out of phase sound the French radiostations in the 90's signature their on-air chain with.

GAP made a 8100 preset a few years ago, but it's not the same, Orban is Orban and Omnia is Omnia and Stereo Tool is Stereo Tool (it's just a to beautiful piece of equipment to try to get another sound out of it imo. But success :)

Unfortunately ST is way behind Optimod or Omnia...

Yes, there is some distance between Omnia and ST. Which is why some parts of Stereo Tool are now being ported to Omnia devices (e.g. clipper & declipper).
