Post subject:  Peak compression new vs old
Hi!
I tried to convert some profiles from using the old compressor to the new one. The old one caused much higher reduction for peak compression, even compared to setting peak mode = 50 in the new compressor.
Is there a general way (e.g. a constant shift for threshold) to fix this or do I have to redo my profiles one by one?

I did some more tests and now found that the analog compressor with peak mode = 50 gives almost the same amount of reduction as the digital one (both using peak compression and identical settings).
  1. Did the old digital compressor already use something like the new analog peak mode = 50 all the time?
  2. For the new analog compressor which peak mode value is closest to full wave rectification (probably = 1, correct?)?
  3. What's the difference in dB between the minimum and maximum analog peak mode value (seems to be about 4 dB?)?

By "old" and "new", do you mean "digital" and "analog" or is old the deprecated "Classic" compressor?

Digital mode's "natural" (without using tricks) way of working was Peak based mode, for Analog mode the "natural" way of working is close to RMS-based. Enabling 'Peak' mode, or setting 'Peak mode' higher, makes it behave more like Peak mode (and hence probably more like Digital mode).

"3" depends on many things, in general Peak mode will push sine waves down more than RMS mode, but if you feed it square waves they should be the same.
