Hi,

Have a question that's been intriguing me for some time now. It’s very straight forward: ¿that smashing sound of the drums –snare and hi-hats- in the upper mids to highs, that you can easily hear in –processed- songs like Part Time Lover, of Stevie Wonder, or One of Us from ABBA, is a result –mainly- of:
a) Aggressive eq and limiting of that section of the spectrum
b) A particular combination of attack and release speeds; if so, ¿which?
c) FM broadcasting –meaning you have to undergo the FM chain to get there
d) Just the characteristics of a given audio processing box-software.
e) None of the above.
f) All of the above.
I'm after a controlled amount of that sound effect, but I don’t seem to be able to achieve it.
Thanks,
Daniel

Back when Leif was actively working on Breakaway, there was a plugin and I can't recall what it was called, but it had 2 settings, Slam and Clunk, if I recall. I think these dealt with some phase rotation or manipulation of some sort. I'm not saying go chase down those plugins, but I'm hoping something I mentioned might spark more conversation around this subject.

Well depend. In ST there is 2 filters that can do that. However IF goal is fully phase linear, then all 3 is no-go.
