Post subject:  RDS over digital feed.

Does anyone know how to send RDS over a s/pdif or aes (with ASIO) digital feed?)
We have a station that comes in digital off of HD to a translator and we're feeding the signal into stereo tool for processing (and analog RDS addition).

I'm wondering if its possible to use s/pdif or aes to feed digital from ST to EAS to BW Broadcast 300 TX V2 via digital AES then have the RDS transmit along with the audio.

Thank you in advance,
Chris

Sure. Since you already have capable soundcard that can output 192lHz out of spdif, all you need spdif to AES converter.
You can also make one - http://www.epanorama.net/documents/audio/spdif.html

I would double check it is it worth it with that exciter. Most of them just have digital input and again converts it to Analog.

My Big Concern is maintaining RDS over the digital stream. When I say EAS I mean my FCC EAS box. I'm s/pdif to it then AES from it to the transmitter. The s/pdif from the broadcast machine to the EAS box will require a conversion to AES. I'll have to pick that up. Thanks for the info. i'm looking more from the technical side to see if it will maintain the RDS output.

You should be able to send it but you need to check for both devices if they are able to use it. Many transmitters only accept left/right input via a digital connection, in that case using a digital connection will cause about 2 dB loss in loudness at the same peak level and loosing RDS, which is probably not what you want...

I'll be testing this tonight. Hopefully I can maintain the RDS over digital but we shall see.
