Hey folks! I wonder if anyone's gone through and tweaked Windows 7 to run at maximum stability/efficiency. I know there are probably a good number of services/drivers that can be set to disabled or manual. Those kind of tweaks, mainly. I understand about start-up programs as well.

The only thing I imagine I'll get back that doesn't work/apply in my situation is disabling the networking and windows updates. However, I do have windows updates download but wait for me to install.

Thanks!

w7professional sp1 would be best. Updates are not needed. Bunch of services can be disabled. Visual themes classic... etc.
For protection Firewall is only needed.
However if there is possibility, WindowsXP still rulez! :)

Any more specifics as far as services that should be disabled or at least set to manual? I imagine things like Print Spooler are ok to disable, if I'm not hooking up to a printer.

Best way is to start with a cleansheet, a new Win7 version and only install these apps you need, I use the standard video drivers from Windows for instance, No need for special drivers.
It's pretty much for all music related pc's to install as less apps as you can.
I use Win7 64b Ultimate and goes like a spear even with all the options used in ST

Here you can see how to configure your Windows for optimum performance > https://youtu.be/V6tB-2DeEvE

Helped me to configure all my workstations for music use.

Success
