We currently use Stereo Tool to process a stream. We are very pleased with the sound, however we are getting some artificating on the letters S, T, and F.

We stream at 128k MP3 and 64k AAC+.

Is there some sort of smoothing available that would remove/decrease this artifact?

Thanks much!

Only way I know of fixing this issue is the option in the 'Highs' tab in the 'Advanced Clipper' feature. There's a de-esser limit which should fix your problem. Bearing in mind it is a paid feature so you may be out of luck.

Did you consider that problem is maybe not in ST?
Proper preset does not do that. So check all connections, sample rates, source..etc.
Give atleast 1dB headroom at output. (postamp -1)

Post at least link to your stream.

Stereo Tool is running as a Winamp plugin within StationPlaylist, so the connection or sample rate is not the issue.

The source is uncompressed WAV files.

First thing you want to do is to rise output peek level by 5dB and set "loudness" 5dB or so, to get same loudness.

What you are doing is pushing loudness too much and peek level is more then 5dB down.

Alright thanks.

Newbie question: Where exactly is the output peak level and the loudness set?

Output peak: Processing -> Post Amp
Clipping level: Processing -> Limiting & Clipping -> Advanced Clipper -> Drive

Thanks for the reply Hans. Changing the Post Amp to a higher level really overdrives the encoder.

I don't have the Advanced Clipper feature licensed at the moment (just the declipper).

I see almost 6 dB headroom in your stream, you should be able to go at least 5 dB louder than this. Also, the simple clipper is NOT made to handle this amount of clipping; it's made to remove an occasional overshoot but not more than that.

Hi Hans,

I made some adjustments to improve things A bit. I'd like to upgrade my Declipper only license to include the Advanced Clipper. I'm not seeing an option for this on the order form. How would I go about doing that?

Thanks much for your assistance.
