Once Orban Made a stereo Synthesizer for mono Signals splitting the Signal in several frequency bands and panning them to left and right alterning. Idea for ST? |

Hm, does that sound good? Based on the description I would expect it to sound quite horrible...

Do you have a recording of it? I looked on YouTube but didn't find anything using these keywords... |

Bob Orban actually talks about the Stereo Synthesiser he made and how it worked in the interviews he does with Leo Laporte on TwiT TV on YouTube. He says it was designed so they could send a mono feed from the studio to the transmitter and the synthesiser would then create a stereo signal from it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oecSm2VUHHE and also with Kirk Harnack: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DD43oT4NZTk Clipper |

I just got an Orban 275 from a friend. Do you just need an audiosample or should I do something with white / pink noise to see the filters? |

Both would be interesting. I have tried it yesterday and it sounded horrible... So I think it does something else than what I understood from your post. The best way to convert mono to stereo that I have seen so far does the following: - Record mono audio to a cassette tape - Digitize it again - Run AZIMUTH correction - Run 'Stereo Image' in Stereo Tool at maximum Phase and Width settings That actually sounds very natural. I still need to figure out what happens on the cassette tape exactly... |

Wooh! It sounds as horrible as my own test - especially Wide. I started listening with headphones and I couldn't stand it at all. Narrow is still kinda ok... But I definitely prefer the mono recording over both. Also on speakers. |
