Post subject: | StereoTool ASIO and Direct Wire |
Hi, Since i do not get many comments on the Dutch version of this forum, here is my question again. First, sorry for my bad English. ![]() I have an Intel Quad-Core 3,1 Ghz Win 7 Ultimate PC for streaming music. The setup is as following: Juli@ ASIO Input @192 Khz, (From Mixer) Stereo Tool, (Magic) StereoTool Normal Output > VAC Input @ 44,1 Khz, VAC Output @ 44,1 Khz > SimpleCast Input, (Stream Encoder) StereoTool Low Latency Output ASIO > Juli@ Output 3 & 4. (Studio Monitoring) Now, this works fine so far. For fine-tuning and just for listening, i set the normal output to ASIO 3 & 4 and switch off the Low Latency output. Then the sound in the studio is very nice. But when i listen to the STREAM on my Harman/Kardon 5.1 sound system(FYI) at home, i cannot say i hear the same sound as in the studio. Clearly, H/K normally should sound better then my wonderfull 2.1 PC speaker set in the studio... But still, in the studio, the stereo effect is fantastic and the sound is so clear and punchy, just awesome. Also, on the other side of the studio, there's an 5.1 set to that sounds very nice to Then i find myself in my home, listening to the stream... Very low stereo effect, a flat sound, just not the same as in the studio... Is it possible that VAC does something with the signal that decreases the quality of the sound? Or maybe SimpleCast? We are streaming MP3 @ 160 Kbps and all the settings in SimpleCast are High Quality. VAC on the other hand, not. It's input is 44,1 Khz and so is it's output. I have read a post of Bochja that the sample rate of VAC should be set to 192000 - 192000 and some other settings should be different as well... Problem 1: If i want to change settings, a notice shows that processes are running and i can't change the settings. I've tried shutting down ST and Juli@ and some drivers as well, butt VAC won't let me change anything. Anyone knows how to do this? Problem 2: With Juli@ come's DirectWire. Is this the same as VAC? Can i patch the output of stereotool to SimpleCast with DirectWire? If yes, can i also at the same time, patch the same output to Juli@ Output? I hope that anyone can make something out of this post and give me an answer, for more information just reply and i will tell you everything. (Related to this post obviously) Thanks in advance. Greetings, Studio 11 |

A few short remarks/answers. 1. For streaming it's not useful at all to work at 192 kHz. It shouldn't hurt either unless VAC or Windows downsamples it. I would set it to either 44.1 or 48 kHz. It will be downsampled before MP3 encoding anyway. 2. DirectWire is similar to VAC and it actually works better (because the timing and sample rate are tied to the Juli@ card). Basically, you can connect the outputs where the signal is going out to inputs, and then select those inputs in your streaming application. That way you will both hear the audio and it gets streamed. What you are describing seems to indicate that SimpleCast is receiving the unprocessed audio - but based on your description I don't see how that would be possible. |

I said that for when you need 192kHz output for mpx.As Hans said you need 44.1kHz in ST and Simplecast. Also check windows >controlpanel>sounds for juli@ is at 44.1 and check is same in Juli@'s mixer. Usually in our studio for monitor i strictly use non-processed output. Only processed channel is microphone with it's separate hardware processing. So to make easier for you i recommend you same. For ST standalone (normal output) you need VAC and in simplecast you need same vac - so nothing to patch there. |

Ok, it's clear to me now, I have set ST to 44,1 Khz Sample rate. By "patch", i meant the "wires" in Directwire. But it's ok now, i think i had something wrong but it sounds good now. I still don't know how to setup DirectWire. Clearly i do something wrong, because i don't see Directwire in Simplecast. |

Click on the ESI icon in the windows tray. The thing that pops up has directwire as a menu item. You won't see it anywhere else. |

I already have direct wire on my screen... I don't know were to put the cables. Asio 3 & 4 should connect to ???? to get the signal on Simplecast? I am listening right now to Normal Output with ASIO Override 3 & 4. Now i need that exact same signal routed by directwire to simplecast as well.
