Hmm, I tried to chime in with some of my experiences in the 7.32 BETA thread but suspect you might have to just give it a try?!

Again not exactly the answer that you two are looking for, but I checked with my local "ST & Marian" guru regarding your question. He tried Win 7 64bit & had stability issues. Went back to XP 32bit and to quote him "it just runs and runs". |

But the question still hasn't been answered regarding stability issues with Win 7 32 bit with ST using the Marian card.I'm sure there are some users who for some reason haven't chime in.I don't know the answer because I and the guru I introduced to ST run XP Pro 32 bit SP2.Bob just wants to be sure before he invest big bucks in a new box. |

Does still works downgrade W7 to XP? If yes... just go with xp 32bit. However W7 32 should work since problems are with soundcard drivers on 64bit os. |

Thanks.afaik, the issues were always with the 64 bit drivers not the 32. |

I'll send an email to my contact at Marian, but I don't know if I'll get an answer in time (in 2013). |

First of all, thank you Oldiesstation for starting this thread ![]() My main computer which doesn't usually run w/ST is a Win 7 Pro 64 bit w/i7-3770 processor. In an attempt to get a better feel for my odds of success, I installed ST 7.40 and the Trace Alpha with it's new 2.62 driver that supports 64 bits. Running everything at full blast (assuming that the non-registered version of 7.40 is capable of fully loading the system) with a test tone, it's outputting a clean signal with at least -50db of separation and showing about 25% CPU load. The proposed system will theoretically beat the benchmark of this system by about 5%. If it's a safe bet that the 32 bit version of Win 7 will be equal or better than the 64 bit version, then I feel pretty confident in moving forward at this point. Does anyone have any reservations or "go for it's" about where I stand at this point? |

Quote: The "try" will cost me over $1100. I'm willing to spend the money but if the "try" doesn't work, I'm stuck with an $1100 rack mount computer that I can't use--and somehow I doubt they'd take it back because it wouldn't work for my use.
Ouch, yes, I can understand your hesitation considering this.Just to throw another spanner in the works, do you know what chipset/motherboard you'd be getting? I think I've read that the lack of native PCI was a problem with some boards/audio cards? Hopefully someone will chime in with a clear answer on this for you but I suspect it will still be difficult to be 100% certain considering the amount of variables involved. (Motherboard, drivers etc.) I think the closest you might get is something like 'highly likely'? |
