Hello,
In my opinion it makes sense to insert an adjustable "Gate- In Time".
A Time that determines how fast the Gate closes.
When you have lower AGC upspeeds, than the recovery is not so very slow in (to low level) speech passages cause you can adjust this time not to close the Gate in the small natural speech pauses.
And there is still one other issue:
Is it possible to insert an "idle- gain" to the AGC?
This is an adjustable gain reduction value where the Gain reduction moves to when the unit is gated.
The speeds how fast the gain reduction moves to this value should be adjustable in 2 ways: The seed that the AGC moves to this point if its actual value is HIGHER then the idle gain value and the speed is used to move to this point if the actual gain reduction is LOWER than the idle gain.
For example:
You have the idle gain value set to "-10dB", the "Gated G/R attenuation speed" is set to 0.5dB/s, "Gated G/R rise speed" is set to 4dB/s.
A song with a low level end stops, the AGC moved to, let´s say, -5dB, the Gate closes. Now, during the silence period the AGC Gain reduction should move with 0.5dB/s to -10dB.
Another time the talent is telling with a telephone announcer with a too hing level. The AGC moves to, let´s say, -15dB. In a pause the AGC should rise the gain during the closed gate to -10dB with 4dB/s.
Regards,
Robert

This (or at least something like this) might be a good idea. There are already several suggestions for AGC improvements here, I'll link this one in my todo list ( viewtopic.php?f=16&t=4985&p=22499#p22499 ) to look at when I start working on the AGC again.
