Post subject: | Confusion in the GUI |
Hi, First of all I love ST7, I don't want this post to be seen otherwise! But I have to confess to some confusion using it, because of the new GUI. Overall the new GUI is great, but what confuses me is the menu on the left hand side. If I click on 'Processing' I see the full menu of options below. Now if I go down and click on 'Limiting & Clipping' it expands to show me sub-menus. I can click on 'Simple Clipper' for example. But then when I click on 'Advanced Clipper', most options disappear. I understand why this is done, but the way it's presented at the moment I really lose sense of where I am. Some menus don't collapse down, like Processing->Natural Dynamics->Band Settings. Others do straight away, like Processing->Declipper. I understand what's happening, but it's still quite confusing - I get the sense I've disabled all those other features because they've disappeared. (I know I haven't) I know a lot of work has gone into ST7 and it shows, but this is one area I feel could be a little bit less confusing, maybe using a menu like the one on the left hand side of this image: ![]() I hope this helps. |

Hm I kinda agree with you - I made the best solution I could think of that will always fit in the available area - but maybe I should indeed add a scroll bar and let parts of the interface be expanded or collapsed. The disadvantage of that would be that you'll often need to scroll (because unless you close things yourself all the time it will occur frequently that things don't fit on the screen). Feedback from others would be welcome... |

I think it's a matter of habit a little difficult for me to adapt too, but then becomes natural. While I recognize that the earlier vision was a little more wide and now have to go through the items one by one not to forget some setting or something that was changed for testing and must turn to another value or enabled. Like the new GUI is much more attractive and can find better control through the VU for all modules. This is my small contribution ![]() |

In the next version, if the window is big enough the section with output level displays is a bit smaller so there's more room for the menu. And then it always fits. Not a full solution of course, but it helps. |
