Had a good first day at the NAB. Several interesting discussions which might lead to things in the future. Also saw something very interesting in the Omnia 9: The side chain for the bass compressor (I think it was a compressor, not an AGC) can also be delayed. Which leaves - in one of Jesse's settings - the first 35 ms of bass VERY loud (gives a big loud punch) and THEN it quickly drops. Any distortion caused in these 35 ms is not really noticeable (it's too short) and afterwards you can drop the bass level a few dB to give headroom to the mid/highs.

This must work MUCH better than the current ST solution (if you want something like this, you have to lower the down speed for the bass bands).


Completely separate from all these discussions: I've rethought the design of my bass distortion in the highs masking, and I think I can greatly simplify (which usually means improve) the design of that.

This is simil to control "Hold", usually used in conjunction with the "Release" in the bass to avoid distortion.
Adjusts the value is usually the time of a wave cycle of the lowest frequency used (frequency = 1 / t, for 35 ms frequency is 1 / 0.035 = 28 Hz) :geek:

Yeah.. but 'bass clipper' in ST does not clip almost at all - at least not same as bbp/O.9. So that 'loud' part will go nowhere / - it will even probably make it worse.

This is not even constant bass - captured same bass kick from some track.

Also just found a big CPU load improvement for the clipper I think (clip using lower samplerate audio -> should lower the bass clipping CPU load to about 25% of the current load)

I understand that the ST clipper is not responding properly to set values ​​5 dB should be noticeable with the BBP. :|

Every 'louder preset' for ST goes even more then + 5dB in clipper.. Just disable protection and you'll see what will happen.
Point is that there is no other way to amplify Bass (in that part of chain) over "0dB" but to simply clip it. What designer's harder job is that to have as much as possible less harmonics caused by clipping.
